D&D video games license to Infrogames extended til 2017

In my opinion Atari/Infogrames is the only publisher that can give EA a run for its money in the crap category, and that's saying something. They all but killed Troika with the whole ToEE fiasco and whatever you think about NWN2 or Obsidian, it's clear that the game was pushed out the door early.

Heck, Bioware swore off the license altogether, and who can blame them.

While Atari's sins have been many over the years- Troika's downfall was entirely an inside job and the result of their own efforts - not Atari's.

Whether Infogrames SA manages to stay in business for the length of that license is the real question.
Good point, and that's actually something of a relief to think about. (As you might have guessed, I think that, at least insofar as the D&D brand is concerned, it would be just as well if they didn't.)

Doubtful, as Infogrames is a French company. The French government is very likely to loan them money to keep them afloat indefinitely, no matter how much they screw up.

Ah, ah, that is a good one !

No sadly my friend, there isn't any money here anymore, so we can't do that sort of stuff any longer.

in any events, they never did that too much. Explaining how a computer mouse works for the previous president was the subject of many jokes in parodies, so imagining them caring about a computer company....

French money means French influence.

Makes you wonder.

Yes you know the secrets : I am planning to buy WOTC all by myself, and keep all the xps for me. they must be mine, my preciousss ...

MWAHAHAHAHAHA !

Now, come on, don't be ridiculous.

And actually, if you look seriously at the video games market, there is worse than Infogrames.

Hmmm... I really enjoyed ToEE. never had any significant problems with it. Contrary to many other games.

The European Union takes a very dim view of such behaviors... it's not so easy as it once was for European governments to subsidize firms.

While it had its issues, and I understand many of the bugs were sorted by the fan community, I have to say that I had hours and hours of enjoyment out of the ToEE game.

Yup Circle of Eight provided a lot of good insight and patches for it.

I actually started a TOEE game the other day.

It's one of my favorite D&D games ever after Co8 fixed it. If it'd had networked capability and 20+ levels, I wouldn't be here typing this now...

I can't stand Neverwinter (at least the packaged game...I like the developer kit and stuff that's come out of it).

No doubt a lot of ToEEs issues were Troika's fault -- their track record was dubious. Their steampunk game was late and still had a lot of issues when it shipped, as did their Vampire game. Shipping a bugfest and expecting the fan community to fix it for you is not a good business strategy.

But the (lack of) customer support, official bug fixes, and the decision to ship the thing in the first place, rests squarely with Atari.

Me too. I'm just shattered that it has been so incredibly long between DnD PC releases. Somebody obviously doesn't want to get to this stash of cash burning a hole in my pocket.
