D&D without the Cleric

@ Aus Snow - what you don't like rogues? Or you just trying to look like the gung-ho thief that you are?

@ Harperscout - dude, i read through it and i LOVE it. It has so much flavour, and makes sense from so many veiws. My only question after my skim (which was briefer than i wished) was - why did (9 or so) spells get dropped? Just didn't fit the concept? or what?

Other than that, this could be something which i'll use for my cmapaign. Like i said, it's very Tolkien inspired, and he has these same sort of undertones. EX - the three Elven Rings, Gandalf had the Fire/Light one, and there were also Water and Air ones too, IIRC. Putting spells into these broad catagories helps get these themes accross that much easier.

Don't worry though . .i'll have more feedback to come

We dropped certain spells because we just didn't feel they fit well with any of the catagories or we dropped them because we didn't like the spell... I swear had there not been two of us I would have flushed magic missile along with the rest of them.

More feedback would be appriciated from everyone.

To elaborate more on the spells, a wizard who takes the energy sphere must select an energy type. So it isn't always a fireball, sometimes its an acid ball. Other times it a lightning ball... it allows players to extend a bit of the character's personality through the spells they use (thanks Monte Cook!).

Any other thoughts?

Magic Missle? Really? That is one of the more "accurate" (read: real-life) spells in D&D. It comes from Scandinavian tales (might be in some Sagas but i can't remember at the moment) of a sorcerer shooting his bow and having his arrow split off into many little "fire-bolts" that unerringly hit targets. I think that should stay, hands down (although a real-life adaptation *might* be more accurate.

For the energy sphere comment, i am kinda 50/50 on it. There's a feat that allows you to do that already - IIRC Energy Substitution. I don't have my books on me at the moment, so i dunno the enalties/drawback involved are, but i'd look to balance that house rule against it.

see you around!

Um. Just tell me you're kidding or something, OK? Sorry, but I just don't get it. Perhaps I'm having another blond day.

lack of sleep + poorly executed "joke" = some craptastic misanthropic mess that you just witnessed. I'll be here till Thursday !! . . . . . . okay, I'll stop now.
