D&Dg question. What's a proxy?

Proxies are elevated agents of the deities in the mortal realm. Sometimes they are regular humans, elves, etc., but in other instances they are supernatural beasts. In almost all cases, they are considerably powerful.

Avatars are embodiments of the actual deities themselves, and usually much more powerful than any proxies.

Planescape had good definitions of the servants and plenty of good examples. Also, I know that the Divine & the Defeated has an example proxy for each deity. Not sure about other pantheon books.

As described in the 2nd Edition PLANESCAPE rules, a proxy is a powerful being, frequently a celestial, that directly serves a deity... His/Her 'right hand', if you will.

Even better, in 3E, a proxy is an entity selected by a deity for a specific purpose or mission... and then temporarily granted a portion of the god's divine power... 1 Divine Rank... to fulfill the need. Of course, the deity will eventually want that 'rank' returned....

So if a god, cannot normally enter the material plane he could send a proxy instread right?

Depends on why he can't go there. If all creatures with divine rank are barred, then the proxy is too. If it's just that god specifically, he might be able to weasel around the restriction with a proxy, yes.
