True....

So why is it called 17 Magic Armors if there are actually 19? You're selling yourself short!

True. True.

I originally wanted to make a series of "12" books, but that was taken. So I thought I would step it up and add more than that.

When I finished writing the first book in the series, there were 19 items, so I was going to call it "19 Magic weapons"... however, when I was laying it out and doing the cover, I felt it was missing something.

It just didn't grab me.

I fooled around with other possibilities, but in the end I felt that "17 Magic Weapons" added the zing I was looking for. Something about the sharp corners of "7" makes it stand out more than the curves of "9", and adds that little something.

It is hard to explain, but this was clearly a marketing decision on my part.

In anycase, I want all the books in this series to have around 12 pages, and there has to be a minimum of 17 items in each book. So don't be surprised if I go over 19 items in a future book.

I also had 2 other options for naming:
1) Keep the "17" name, and only have 17 items in each book. This is problematic because the page counts will be different for each book and I would have different prices for each one. This is not a problem for the bigger books like my Unorthodox Series, but I don't want five "17" books out there with prices ranging from $.75 to $2.00. I would rather have them all be around 12 pages with a $1.65 price tag, and a minimum of 17 items.

2) Rename each book based on total items. For example, I could have a "19 Magic weapons," "22 Magic rings, "11 magic armors", etc. This is also problematic because it hurts Branding. I want people to be familiar with the "17" series, and I want customers to keep coming back to buy the next one. When people see "17 Magic something", I want them to think "That's The Le Game's new book in the 17 line. I liked the previous one, so I want to check out the new one".

So, there you go. A quick 2-minute lesson on The Le Game's marketing strategy for naming a book.

Or, maybe I just like selling myself short. I blame my cats.

12 was taken? What jerk would do that? :)
I had thought about doing a baker's dozen of foo. But I thought that was too silly.

le, Have you considered these alternative titles:

17 or so magical armors
at least 17 magical armors
not quite 20 magical armors
more magical armors than YOU can wear

Hope that helps :)

Or maybe "More Than a Dozen Magical Armors."
