d20 books I CANNOT buy (Rant)

Turanil

First Post
Well, I have bought several d20 books this year, but was ready to buy more.

I especially wanted to buy Ancient Kingdoms: Mesopotamia and Beyond Countless Doorways. So I ordered them on Amazon, but processing order for these books is 1 to 3 months! I am used to buy them on Amazon because of the 30% discount and shipping costs (to Europe) are only 5$ to 8$; but it seems i won't be able to buy those books here, so cancelled the order. Then, I went to Necromancers online store; I reluctantly agreed to pay without the 30% discount, but then I discovered that shipping costs for 2 books would be 48$!! Incredible! So, I cancelled my order. THEN, I noticed that both books are available in PDF... I would have bought them immediately if it was on RPGnow; but as it is DriveThru I won't, as it would be a mess trying to read them on my old macintosh and Acrobat 5 to begin with; then, all this antipiracy obsession is only telling me that they would already consider me a potential pirate, so I won't give them a cent.

Hence: I cannot buy these books!

I will nonetheless get a look at my LGS today or tomorrow just per chance they could have Mesopotamia...

:(

Anyone else who cannot get what they want with their money?

I ordered a copy of the Creature Collection: Revised last year, but haven't seen it. The policy of the LGS is that they don't sell revised books all that eagerly. So, I have been waiting for my revised book for a whole lot of days already, and it is unlikely I'll ever see it.

However: when it comes to buying new stuff that has just been published the LGS is great. They can order just about any product I want and it only takes a few weeks, without any extra charge for deliveries or anything :).

So, I'm good unless I want some revised niche products.

Maybe we should set up some kind of assistance program... I know that my FLGS had both Mesopotamia and CC Revised last time I was in the store (Never heard of "Beyond Countless Doorways", but I'll look for it ). I'd be willing to buy them and ship them for you guys for cover price plus shipping cost if they are still there. I have 100% positive Ebay feedback (http://feedback.ebay.com/ws1/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback&userid=tmiskey&ssPageName=STRK:ME:UFS) I'm sure there are several others on these boards who'd do the same, maybe even someone in Europe so you'd save on shipping.

Grim Tales.

No place down here carries it, and I don't have a credit card, which makes online orders impossible. So, truthfully, that prettymuch cuts me out of the entire online market, and down to what I can scrounge in bookstores.

Turanil, if you go to Monte Cook's webpage (http://www.montecook.com) you'll find a link to (I think) White-Wolf's On-line store where you can buy "Beyond Countless Doorways" as a non-DRM PDF.

As for getting hardcovers in Europe - have you tried Amazon.co.uk? I've done some business with them, mainly "ordinary" (i.e. non-RPG) books, and think they're OK.

If you're still having troubles, give me a buzz and I'll try to help. My FLGS has "Ancient Kingdoms: Mesopotamia" for about 28 euro, and they will be getting "Beyond Countless Doorways" as a hardcover in October, estimated cost 41 euro. They have an on-line store (http://www.sfbok.se), but unfortunately it's in Swedish only. They do, however, ship to all of Europe.

Cheers,
Meadred

Amazon.co.uk aren't bad for core D&D stuff (I bought all my core rulebooks via them as they shaved a big chunk off the price), but they don't go much beyond WOTC hardback books.

You could try legendgames.co.uk, who are a North London based store with good online mail order facilities and a very extensive catalogue. I expect you'll still need to pay heavier postage from the UK to France (shouldn't be much though), but I'm willing to bet that it's less than a US company will charge you.

Edited to give correct target country!

As for the rest....well, it must really stink to be a fan of American RPGs in Europe.

No!
I live in Germany and have a good online retailer who has most D20 produkts.
Also buying on amazon Germany or UK or even USA is a viable option.
And last but not least, I know several well stocked FLGS.
Only things is, that you get the products 1-2 after release due to shipping.
