I keep looking for tome of horrors. Its not carried by our local stores, Waldenbooks told me they couldn't order it, and I can't find it on amazon or Barnes and Noble. (there is one listing in the used books on B&N but that is actually for Tome of Horrors II when you get to the actual item). Of course I'm mostly interested in getting a cheap used one but normally amazon and Barnes and noble have listings for used ones that might or might not be cheap.

Thanks for all your responses, thanks to those who proposed to help me.

I have decided for the LGS. If they have it, I will buy, otherwise not.

Wait, what's wrong with Drive Thru?

it would be a mess trying to read them on my old macintosh and Acrobat 5 to begin with; then, all this antipiracy obsession is only telling me that they would already consider me a potential pirate, so I won't give them a cent.

My problem with Drive Through is that I can not disable my firewall.

Grim Tales. No place down here carries it, and I don't have a credit card, which makes online orders impossible. So, truthfully, that prettymuch cuts me out of the entire online market, and down to what I can scrounge in bookstores.

Why does everyone say that they have to have a credit card to order online? I hate credit cards and will probably never use one but that has never stopped me from ordering online. I always pay with a money order and never had a problem paying that way

BTW, FRPGames, my favorite online store, has GT at a discount and you can pay with a money order

I feel for you. I order most of my RPG books through Amazon, and they are fairly slow at getting them in. Low density d20 are virtually impossible to get. Heck, I ordered some of the WOTC September releases from Amazon (Frostburn, MMIII), which the EN World shop already has -- but the Amazon projected ship date is Nov 15.

Guess that's the price of a 30% discount.

Amazon can be difficult for RPG stuff. I was given an Amazon gift certificate last May and decided to use it on Ed Cha's "Hamlet of Thumble". The projected shipping time was 1-2 months. It still hadn't shipped by the beginning of September so I finally cancelled the official Amazon order and got it through one of the "used & new" shops at Amazon. Got the book within 2 weeks. (It's a good buy, too.) Don't know how many of those "used & new" stores will ship to Europe, though.

If I've learned one thing in my life its that Amazon cannot be trusted in delivering anything.... took them nearly six months to ship me the 3.5 books.

[sigh]

If your local game store will not order it in for you, I will be happy to sell it to you direct-- and if you contact me beforehand by email to be on the lookout for your order, I'll be happy to take a check or money order by mail.

For the life of me I will never understand the mentality of the local store owner who lets a sale (and an unhappy customer) walk out of his shop...

I especially wanted to buy Ancient Kingdoms: Mesopotamia and Beyond Countless Doorways. So I ordered them on Amazon, but processing order for these books is 1 to 3 months! I am used to buy them on Amazon because of the 30% discount and shipping costs (to Europe) are only 5$ to 8$; but it seems i won't be able to buy those books here, so cancelled the order. Then, I went to Necromancers online store; I reluctantly agreed to pay without the 30% discount, but then I discovered that shipping costs for 2 books would be 48$!! Incredible! So, I cancelled my order. THEN, I noticed that both books are available in PDF... I would have bought them immediately if it was on RPGnow; but as it is DriveThru I won't, as it would be a mess trying to read them on my old macintosh and Acrobat 5 to begin with; then, all this antipiracy obsession is only telling me that they would already consider me a potential pirate, so I won't give them a cent.
Amazon seems to be VERY slow on some gaming books lately. The new World of Darkness book says 1-3 months and it does say 1-2 months for Mesopotamia. Of course, Beyond Countless Doorways doesn't come out in hardcover until October 30th, so it's no surprise you can't get it for a month or so *grin*.

Does Acrobat 6 not run on older Macs? Also if you go here: http://secure1.white-wolf.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=45&sort=2a&page=2&osCsid=d6d6c72145c9a9fa50e606983dc39834 you can get the regular pdf not the secure one. For Grimoire 2 Monte had mentioned that Drivethru sold the secure and WW sold the regular pdf at their website. I assume it is the same for all other pdfs of his as well. So there's $13 bucks and you won't feel like you're being considered a pirate.

Edit:Ahh 10.2.4 or higher for Adobe 6 w/DRM. Also this link http://www.drivethrurpg.com/catalog/ForumResponse.htm has some of their responses to common misconceptions about the pdfs they sell. Really it seems fairly reasonable to me. It's not so much a case of automatically assuming their paying customers are pirates, but just an extra precaution for the publishers to make sure that it is those who are actually paying for the service who receive the benefits.

disclaimer:I'm generally against forced DRM like those being discussed for Longhorn (Windows 2006), but in this case you DO have the option of buying a "real" copy of the book instead...just maybe have to wait a bit longer and then pay a bit more.
