I thought I read someone was going to publish this? Was I dreaming or is that true?

I know there is a website devoted to this but I am looking for a published book

AEG was what the anouncement said a long time ago, but I don't believe anything more has been said since then.

Actually, AEG dsimissed the rumour as exactly that... a rumour.

Other sources have encouraged the rumour, but to date, no one has OFFICIALLY said they have the license.

(To the best of my knowledge)

I haven't heard a whisper of anything.

If you want to run DS anytime soon, you should use that "website" you refer to in your post!

http://www.athas.org/

They have done a LOT of work in converting Dark Sun to 3E: so far they have posted extensives .pdfs for

Races
Classes
Spells
Feats

and other 3E goodies too including some monsters.

The stuff looks really good. One of the most detailed campaign offerings that I have seen on the web for free.

If any company has seriously pursued buying Dark Sun, we haven't been informed (at athas.org).

We've never been informed by Wizards about any attempt or discussions regarding a company buying DS: we hear it from the same places as all of you, news or message boards.

So until someone buys DS, you can get everything free at athas.org. All feedback is much appreciated; a complete set of rules for a campaign should be ready very soon. The Equipment chapter of the rules should go up in a few days.

Monte Cook confirmed it in a chat a few weeks ago. At least I think that's what he meant. Inside info, I think.

I recall Chris "Green Ronin" Pramas mentioning that he had asked WOTC about buying/licensing Dark Sun, but had been informed that someone else was already doing that. Haven't seen anything about it since.

The problem with the athas.org conversion is that it attempts to convert the Prism Pentad to 3e, not the original game material. That's a pretty big mistake IMO.

Could you explain ? I read only the first four or five DS supplements and the revised campaign setting, so I don't actually understand what you mean and how it impacts the conversion...
