d20 Game Master Screen by Green Ronin

I picked one up today. GR and The Game Mechanics did and excellent job. The layout is clean and the information pertanent. I was not too impressed with the art work. A little to D&Dish for my tastes. I would have liked to see a style closer to the layout of the books but no biggy.

I skimmed throught the adventure and at first glance it looks intriguing. The one thing I did like is the Game Mechanics initiative cards in the back along with a cool custom character sheet. I think the adventure is called Come for the Reaping. Sorry I don't have it in front of me.

It is worth buying in my opinion.

The question I have is whether or not Wizards is going to do an "official" one or if this was part of their "hand off to third party publishers" business model with d20 Modern.

IIRC, the TGM initiative cards are also a FREE download from the TGM website under the experiments section.

As for WotC producing one, I figure if there are some out there now, and by ex/current WotC developers, they'll probably shy off on it. It seems (to me) like a high cost/low profit option that only makes money on mass sales, and a DM screen for a fledgling product like modern isn't going to get the numbers they'd get from D&D.

Actually, a d20 Modern screen will be a bonus item for the Wizards' D&D DM's Screen Deluxe product.

As for GR's version ... Sighs ... it bends easily. It seems no one wants to print it on cardboard anymore. :(

Ranger, I like the Aragorn pic, it's fitting.

Anyway, I hope my stands the test of time. I try to be gentle but screens do get beat up.

When is Wizards putting out said Deluxe product?

Jester6, you are correct. I have them, I love them, I use them. The initiative cards help this old dusty brain of mine keep up. I hightly recommend them.

Hence why WotC came out with the SRD in the first place. :) So third party publishers would do the projects with thin profit margins and still survive as compared to WotC that couldn't do such things on their scale and make the stockholders happy.

Well, we did what we could (looked at the current standard weight for screens these days), and printed both this and the M&M screen on heavier stock than anything else on the market. Unfortunately, the super-rigid "cardboard" type stock (ala 1st Edition) drives the cost of a screen right up past the point most people are willing to pay. :(

It's the same unfortunate circumstance of the marketplace that keeps us from releasing a big ol' hefty boxed set, chock full of giant two-sided, full-color fold out maps and player handouts on vellum and all that. Just not possible to do it and not lose tons of money.

Oh, well. I guess I'm going to have buy two sets, just to cover the MasterScreen Quad accessory by Citizen Games ... ALL 8 pockets.

Of course, if you're offering the screen as PDF download for the Quad I'd be happy to send you a money order.
