D20 Modern and Dark Matter?

First Post
I haven't bought D20 Modern yet, but I'm wondering if it would be an opportunity to use my Dark Matter Alternity source book again.

My Dark Matter book is packed away, but I don't really recall any system specific info. Wasn't really just ideas that could be converted to D20 Modern?

Any thoughts?

I'm going to be trying that very thing, plus adding in some stuff from Dark Conspiracy. At the moment all I have access to is the SRD of D20 Modern, but that might be enough to do what I want to do. :)

D*M is mostly setting material, but there is quite a bit of Alternity rules info as well: fast-play rules, chargen mods, FX mods, and "xenoforms" with associated stats.

*However*, I thnk it would be pretty easy to "update" it for d20 Modern. Heck, most of the stat info is in shaded grey boxes... just replace it with d20 stats, and you're good to go!

I posted the idea on the Wizards boards, but I think revising D*M for d20 Modern would be a brilliant idea. Certianly better than letting the property sit in a file cabinet and collect dust, which is what WotC is doing now. :(

The skills are fine. The Alternity system was the root of d20, so it's not a tough conversion.

I have a disagreement with Burst being WIS based (huh?) and I'd tweak Autofire, but otherwise the d20Modern combat rules are spiffy.

The trick would primarily be the psionics FX. I am ... not pleased with the "magic psionics" in D&D which have drifted over into d20Modern.

Spycraft Psionics is feat and skill-based. It's gorgeous. But remember, it's in the Series Archer Worldbook, not the core silver book. It's alos worth looking at a system built for firearms combat, as opposed to d20 which has always just sort of had it tacked on.

Are the Spycraft Psionics pretty much combatible with d20 Modern, or is the Spycraft system significantly changed? I agree -- Psionics really needs to be feats and skills based. Ken Hoods Psionics might be a good alternative (what's the URL for that, BTW?) and I've also looked at doing it via d20 Call of Cthulhu feats.

You'd have to throttle them back a little inpower -- maybe increase the subdual damage (it's VP in the rules, but you get the idea) by 1/3 or up the DC onthe really cool aggressive stuff by 5 or 10. The thing I like about skill based is its ability to be tweaked like so.
