[d20 Modern] House Rules?

I am stil uncertain as to what kind of campaigns there are to run a group through. The segmented campaign settings in the back of the book are nice, but they are very limited on the information that they give you. I hear tell that there is a complete campaign setting module that is to be coming out soon for the Urban Arcana campaign setting. I hope that it will be fille dwith a lot more detail than what they tried to shove in the core book.

What?

Have you ever seen the movie "Ronin" with Robert DeNiro. Perfect scenario for d20M. Any of Chow Yun Fat's movies set in the modern world ("The Replacement Killers") are also perfect for designing a scenario.

Any episode of the X-Files can be used for a "Shadow Chasers" campaign. Heck, for a corny one take a look at the movie "They Live."

Get your imagination rolling.

James Bond, XXX, Alias, a setting with Brian Lumley's vampires (or any other vampire type setting, for that matter), aliens invade, sucked into the past with dinosaurs, Mad Max, Lethal Weapon, etc. The list goes on and on. Hell, just a pick a movie or book that you really liked and roll with it. :)

EDIT: Crap. I forgot five more really, really good ones...Aliens, Predator (or AvP, for that matter), Terminator, and two of my favorities...Scanners and Ghostbusters! :D

I was thinking a little more original.

I understand that I could apply something from all of those many examples you guys gave, but I am looking for originality. Yes, there probably is enough there to get you started, but not enough to keep it moving at a descent pace.

Given all the RPG products out there right now, its getting more and more difficult to be really original. Afterall, there's only a finite amount of ideas out there, and there's billions of people out there to come up with those few ideas.

What kind of "original" game were you thinking?

Probably something that the entire scope of the idea isn't based upon any particular movie, tv show, vidoe game, or book. Gaining motivations from these elements is fine, but I, personally, would not like to play in a game where I am reliving something that I have already seen. Taking D20M and creating a campaign that puts you in Sunnydale with Buffy and her friends is a bit stupid. Perhaps take the concept of the magic, type of vampires, and atmosphere to create something that has the feel of what you like. All you have to do from there is to expand upon it to create your own world. Don't make lost and never seen before episodes of the tv show. Don't ruin someone else's idea that they heave already marketed. Sit in a room by your self, and be creative. It really isn't that hard. There are original ideas out there, and, yes, they are few and far between. But, they are there. All you have to do is try hard, and never quit creating. Perhaps your idea isn't really original, but have your friends seen it before. There is a chance that they have not.

All I am trying to say is that people need to be a little more creative. They just need to try, and it will come to them.

So people that play such a game or create such a game are a bit stupid? That's pretty harsh. Besides, your own statement just backfired on you. D&D has already been done, yet you run D&D (I know this for a fact), and its an unorignal idea. Its unoriginal because someone else has already created the setting. In effect, you are calling everyone that runs a D&D game a bit stupid. The fact that you include yourself in this statement doesn't really make it any better either.

You should be more a little more careful with your words. First of all, it will help prevent the onset of a flame war. Secondly, I might actually read the rest of your post. Just some friendly advice.
