[D20 Modern] Me and my girlfriend...

unfortunately, the d20 mechanics are quite BAD at accurately representing a real character's abilities, mainly due to their flawed skill system (rooted in their class system) - IRL, most people have quite a few skills, talents and knowledge that can't be touched with "Skill Points" and "Feats".

...and on the other side of that, there are the dozens of combat feats few real people can perform. You'll note I didn't assign either of us Great Cleave or Burst Fire. ;)

Have you tried to see if you can beat an average house cat with your stats :p

Also your girlfriend has better stats than you. So when you arm wrestle her is it a dead heat.

Haven't tried a house cat. I wouldn't put any money on it, though. :)

As for our relative stats, I used 28 point buy for each of us. I developed Lee Williams for a game Angelboi's running, and then thought it'd be fun to stat my g/f, too. I just used the same Char Gen rules I used from AB's game for Lee for her.

I'd probably stat your average 25-year-old guy as level 2 or 3. just seems about right, in terms of skills.

I'd probably handle sports with the Profession skill, only using Dex (or sometimes Str) as the key ability.

I'd probably pull a rank or 2 from Computer Use. In my way of thinking, nobody who's not a hacker really needs more than 1 or 2 ranks. After that, I think it has more to do with knowing multiple programming languages, being able to set up/crack complex firewalls, etc.

Cool, though. I should try to stat myself some time . . .

NoWAY!!! LOL

There are way more than 3 different skill levels (0 ranks, 1 rank and 2 ranks) for Computer Use.

There's the person who knows nothing (0 ranks), the person who's famiuliar with the concepts and can touch a computer (1 rank) then a novice user (2 ranks), then someone who actually knows what they're doing (3), then someone who can use multiple programs, get around, and talk some terminology (4 ranks), then a Power User around 5 ranks, advancing to a help desk about 7, a hands-on tech support around 10, an administrator (or in my case, an instructor) at about 15, and a network architect at 20.

Programming is a different skill entirely, in my eyes.

If I was you I'ld do this, take the age you mature at, say around 18,and add 1 exp for every day. Someone (I forgot who) did this for experts and it made a lot of sense. Lets see your 25 that means that you have (365.25)x7 exp or 2556xp which would make you a second level character going on to third.

Now, if you considered yourself to be a faster maturer than most, maybe you would consider yourself mature as early on as 15 or 16 which would mean around 3600xp or 3rd level.

If you believe yourself to be a better learner than everybody, maybe 2 or 3 xp a day would more suit your character which would mean you have around 6,000xp or 4th level. And should you be a child genius, with extraordiary abilities at learning maturing ect, your looking at around 10,000 exp at 25 (using a maxed out normal progression) which means 5th level.

Of course this doesn't account for accelerated xp awards, for instance having a rough childhood, or being stranded at sea, or killing a dragon.

Yeah, I wasn't sure how to reflect that great red wyrm I slew in junior high. :D
