[d20 Modern] Nurse?

OK, here's another one, what Occupation would you stat a nurse under, Doctor or Emergency Services?

I'd be inclined to say Doctor, even though neither description really fits a nurse. Anyone else?

Depends upon the individual nurse. Some are better done with Emergency Services and others are better handled by Doctor; a few are better represented by the Military occupation, relying upon their class skills to be skilled physicians.

If it's a PC then any starting occupation is acceptable, just as long as they manage to have Treat Injury as a class skill and four to eight ranks in it. They don't need the surgery feat, as many nurses are never formally trained in surgery, but there is no reason they couldn't take it as many nurses learn to become basic surgeons through a combination of observation and necessity.

Either go with the option that's best for the character's origin or pick one as the basic 'nurse' template and design the ordinaries from there.

As a current Nursing Student, the vast majority of a Nurse's initial training consists of studies in 'Care Providing' and not so much 'Trauma or Emergency Room type treatments'. I would say that neither of those 2 roles really fit, but a specialized RN could fill either role effectively... Nurse Practitioner is the equivalent of a Doctorate Degree in Nursing Studies and they can treat many maladies (but have limited drug script options). There are also ER Nurses who are much more knowledgeable in Emergency Trauma than the typical Family Doctor (which is the vast majority of those called doctors). The standard nurse has a broad body of knowledge associated with care providing, administering drugs/medications, and otherwise helping patients with recovery from injury or sickness.

All very different roles - and I would suggest a new occupational option rather than trying to pigeonhole them into one or the other.

I was trying to stick with the core Occupations which are otherwise pretty comprehensive. Thanks for the answers, though. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something.
