D20 Modern Official Website

garyh

First Post
Anyone else notice that the official WotC D20 Modern website hasn't been updated for over a month? In fact, not since before the game became widespread.

Um... how 'bout some support, WotC? I dunno... maybe a sliver of the attention the D&D site gets? Some equipment... some advanced classes... something?

Indeed. That's why I was so surprised. Heck, what happened to the folks who engineered the 3E launch blitz? Did they get laid off? ;) WotC is really dropping the ball on this.

What we are seeing right now appears to be part of the Christmas season. Many companies are doing one of two things right now:

1) Cleaning up old business, and trying to get affairs in order before a christmas shutdown;

2) Doing temporary layoffs of a few weeks duration in order to not have to pay everyone full pay for having not enough work to fulfill.

I'm sad to say that companies I have worked for have had to do the latter when the orders slow down to a trickle for the last month of the year.

In any event, does Charles Ryan (the main d20 Modern Guru) still work for WotC? I thought I recall seeing somewhere where he left WotC to start another company with John Rateliff(?) and Stan Brown(?), but I could be wrong on this.

Good points, but one thing about this last one - Monte left WotC and Skip was laid off, but D&D still gets support. Even if CHarles Ryan left WotC, it doesn't mean the support should stop.

Well considering Wizards simply stopped updating the WoT and CoC pages after release I'm not exactly surprised regarding the Modern page.

That's true... and darn it, I really like WoT!! And it's not even like Rokugan or CoC, where they transfered rights to another company.

But I digress. :)

True, but those were licensed products --- one-shots [or two shots, in the case of WoT]. WotC has much more incentive to keep stoking the fires of d20 Modern.

But I believe Charles Ryan told someone on the WotC boards that updates [including a Gadgeteer advanced class] were on the way shortly.

This reminds me...damn Chaosium for failing to support CoC d20 in a timely fashion. A massive missed opportunity. By the time Pulp Cthuhlu comes out, the CoC d20 book will probably be long out of print.

This is what Rich Redman of WOTC had to say on the topic:

A couple of notes for all you fans (including you, Ranger_Reg):

1) There is no Wizards web team. This site is maintained and paid for by Hasbro. The people doing it sit in the Wizards' offices, but they work directly for Hasbro.

2) Hasbro budgets for this website, for good or ill, take your pick.

3) IMO, Julia Martin is doing a brilliant job of working with these circumstances. She really knows how to maximize time and money.

4) The lay-offs in September threw everybody for a loop.

5) I have a contract with Julia to produce d20 Modern columns for this site on a monthly basis, first one going up in January. I turned in the first three before the d20 Modern chat, so it's going to be April before luris_blear gets a column on building fiends (but I haven't forgotten my promise to do it). I'll listen to any requests for columns, my e-mail is available through my screen name.

6) The great Steven "Stan!" Brown has a contract to produce d20 Modern adventures for this website, I believe on a monthly basis.

You want support material? You got it! Starting next month.
