d20 Modern... VP/WP or HP?

The new d20 Modern website at Wizards has a preview of a revised Charismatic Hero character class that is remarkably different from the one previously presented in Shadow Chasers. All in all, it looks much better, but it does beg a question.... has d20 Modern switched over to the straight Hit Point system (as the preview seems to indicate), or is it retaining the VP/WP system or perhaps a HP/WP hybrid?

Well either way I plan to use VP/WP's myself. I personally prefer that system because it can make a critical hit very dangerous. Just my thoughts anyways.

Well, if you use the CoC massive damage mechanic, any hit can be dangerous (which d20 modern will probably use if they go the HP route.)

My problem is that the massive damage mechanic is TOO dangerous. If you want an action oriented game (which I understood d20 modern was going to be, or at least it will be a common mode of play), I think the massive damage mechanic is out of the question.

I'm hoping that they use the VP/WP system - personally I am adapting my D&D campaign to it as well. I'm playing a Star Wars game right now and it just seems to work better. Crits are deadly (although the party has yet to face any opponents beyond driods in combat) and I like the 'feel' of the VP/WP system - espically that the NPC classes get no VP, just WP. That is the best reason to use it - now mooks remain mooks and I won't have 20th level Commoners with 100hp running around! ;)

This question may already be answered... in the preview of the "Charismatic hero" on the new d20 Modern website it mentions that "Charismatic heroes gain 1d6 hit points per level."

I was kinda hoping for the vitality/wound system myself... :(

<Edited for grammar...>

I would prefer hit points (it's simpler) with a faster recovery time for a no-magic-healing setting.

Vitality/Wounds has nearly all of the problems of Hit Points, with the added problem of instant-death criticals.

Another good idea would be to have the option for either system.

Geoff.

I'm sure that anyone that actually knows the answer to that has signed a Non-Disclosure Agreement and can't actually tell you.

As someone who is under the NDA, I'll just say that yes, we do know the reason for the switch back to hp, but I don't agree with the reason given (based on the comments on this and similar threads, the reason IMO doesn't hold water).

I'd love to say more, but it'd have to wait until November.

Hmmmm. While I never liked the VP/WP system (too complicated, I think), I think they should have offered both systems in d20 modern. Not that much work or extra space to do that.
