D20/OGL Version of AD&D, 2nd Edition?

Flynn

First Post
Good Morning, All,

It seems to me that we have a lot of retro/nostalgia running around with OGL versions of older editions of D&D. For example, there's BFRPG for OD&D, and OSRIC/C&C for AD&D 1st Edition. Does anyone know if someone is putting together an OGL version of AD&D 2nd Edition?

Just curious,
Flynn

For some time I considered doing it...
-- There would have been 20 classes: (PHB) Bard, Cleric, Druid, Fighter, Paladin, Ranger, Thief, and Wizard (including specialists); + (Dark Sun) Gladiator, Elemental cleric, Templar; + (Scarlet Brotherhood) Assassin, Monk ; + (Complete Barbarian) Barbarian, Shaman; + (Viking Sourcebook) Berserker, Runecaster; + (TOM) Wild Mage; + (Netbook of Witches) Witch.
-- Instead of THAC0, a d20 procedure.
-- Streamlined ability scores' bonuses (and no percentile strength!!).
-- Streamlined thief skills and proficiencies, with something akin to DC modifiers.
-- In addition to weapon and nonweapon proficiencies, special abilites akin to feats / 2e kits benefits, to be chosen by the character as feats are chosen.
-- An XP procedure enabling to multiclass as in d20.

Hum well... the more I went on, the farther from AD&D 2e it went. The result was also too close to C&C. Not sure it would have interested anyone. :\ :heh:

Well, since you bumped it, might as well answer it.

There is a free 2e retro-clone called For Gold & Glory

There was also a really snazzy neo-clone (not an exact duplicate, but a spiritual successor with ascending AC and the trifold save system) called Myth & Magic that got kickstarted but ran into problems. Only the player's guide was released (and a lot of people who paid for hard copies of the book apparently never got them).
