d20 Reviews!

I just wrote a negative review of "Acceptance of Fate" although to be fair it probably is worth buying if you have bought the first two and play in the "Diomin" setting. (Under my alter ego of Unit7, I think I have another review under DMaple but I forgot the password for that account)

I wrote it mainly because I had too, as part of the deal for getting it for free (not write a bad review, just any review).

Looking back at my review of "Speaker of Dreams" I was probably too kind giving it a 3 out of 5. Having played it its only a 2 IMHO.

I'll have to think of some more things to slag off, perhaps all the splat books as I've really not found much use for them. Then again they have plenty of reviews.

Shame its just D20 stuff as the none D20 stuff I have bought recently has been much more worth writting about.

I actually am scared to write a review! Maybe we should have some sort of a "writer's workshop" for reviewers. (Or maybe it's just my unique position in the community that makes it harder for me personally to do it...)

Also, when I buy something and I like it, I'd be more likely to write a review than if I hated it. I wouldn't even waste my time with writing up a negative review. I wonder if that's a common feeling...

If I hated a product, damn straight I'll write a review on it. My review should give a very clear definition of why I hated it and who may like the book. What I thought the book was about, what the book actually was about, and how the book presented itself.

The reviews system will only allow a product to be listed as one of the top 20 if it has at least 5 reviews...

Perhaps this rule should be re-evaluated in light of the other changes to the review policy made by Morrus a month or two back. Now that comments count as comments and not additional reviews, and reviewers are not supposed to refer to previous reviews, it seems unlikely that a product will generate five reviews. I mean if four people have already written full reviews on a product but just missed a key point or two, a fifth person is unlikely to want to add a complete review rather just comment on a previous one.

Don't get me wrong, I think it's a good idea that comments are shown as comments rather than reviews, I just think that it cuts down on the number of scored reviews enough that we should re-think the minimum required to place in the rankings.

I think Dave has a good point, 4 full reviews is usually more than enough to cover a publication.

I don't agree. I do think 7 reviews was too much. But you go less than 5, the score become seriously vulnerable to one fawnish or pissy review.
