Would people be up to helping me do some of this stuff

I think personly that there should be a core group of varient classes

A. Street Samurai (Variant Monk/Ranger Combo)
B. Full Mage (Much Like the Sorcerer though the drain rule should be incorporated)
C. Talismonger (Variant druid) ( Street Shaman)
D. Decker (Variant Bard like class with the Decking Abilities replacing the bardic abilities)
E. Rocker (Variant "Modernized" Bard)*
F. Rigger (Variant Wizard "Technomancer" )

*(Not necessarily needed)
Advanced Classes

Corporate Bodyguard (Variant Street Samurai)
Mercenary (Variant Fighter/ Barbarian Combo)
Fixer (Variant Rogue/ Bard Combo)

Contacts should be incorporated somehow.

Does anyone have the original 2nd Edition Weapons List I could really use that (since my book was stolen this last month or so ago)

Most of the equipment can be transfered almost directly over with some rules modifications to fit the new rules set

I think the Street Samurai should be a Presige Class - the title is to "good" to waste it on an a "core" class.
(Even if many people do call themselves Street Samurai, this should mean something more than just "a guy with a gun and razors")

Our homebrew testversion had:
Soldier (or Fighter)
Ki Adept (similar to Monk, but the Special Abilities could be choosen similar to Bonus Feats)
Shaman
Hermetician (?)
Technician/Mechanist
Rogue

For the reputation question:
Usually, not many people know about a Shadowrunner - even in the shadows. The main person to know about the capabilities of the Runner is the Fixer. He is contacted by a Johnson, chooses the Runner, and arranges a meeting.
At least that is how we do and see it. :)

The Rep of a Shadowrunner has always been focal in games I have played in.

In Matrix (Movie) terms it would be Neo from the First movie at the beginining sure he is a Hacker by night, but he is no Morpheus...at least at the beginning anyway. Or another one from the movie when Trinity's hack sign is recognized by Neo tada there you go.

Good point about the Street Sam, so that brings up the question of what replaces the fighter at least in name. Soldier works but it means more than just the Warriors of the Urban Blight, Mercenary?

For the Street Samurai the Requirements should have something to do with Dex, and Cyberware.

Another thing I think should be incorporated into the Conversion

The Magical Ranking

Full Mage (As Wizard)
Rogue Mage (Vigilante Mage, As Sorcerer)
Street Mage ( The Scum Mage (As Adept/Sorcerer)
Burned Out Mage (To much essence lost As???Adept???)

Talismonger
Rocker
Rigger
Decker
--- Corporate (Payroll Deckhead)
--- Hard Wired ( Heavily Cybered up)
---Master (PrC Skillz Decker or whatever

<<< Peeps, any y'all here ever run into a CPok Deckhead, Man I was nifto fried by one of them chummers back in '49. The Frag'n dandelion eater nearly wasted my MEM man POSTED 23:45 PM EST 8-7-2051 Drek_Happy_Priest >>>

<<< Yeah chummer I think most of us Netrunners have hit a Cpok now and again course it always helps to have a personal node jackout* Though they are hefty nuyen POSTED 02:30 AM EST 8-8-2051 Tombstone>>>

* PNJ or Personal Node Jackout is an item that was availiable to my group (thanks to a really cool GM) that allowed one to exit from the matrix from wherever, Really nifty but it cost us an arm and a leg

Cpok is what we called the Corp ruled Deckheads that were always there to watch over the security of places such as the Ares Research & Development HQ, the Nippon Turner Building, and the Port Authority Registry

Green Ronin games put out a Class Book for Shaman in the D&D setting that I think would apply very easily to a Shadowrun Conversion.

Old shadowrun feel...

The people I play/GM with have been thinking about d20 Shadowrun as well. I being the old school gamer that I am, cling to my old rules.

I got my hands on d20 Modern, and I have to say I'm impressed. After buying Mutants and Masterminds as well, I see a definite possiblity for converting SR to d20.

Great ideas by all, and here's some thoughts:

Magic hurts in shadowrun, even for a powerful mage. There is still the possiblilty for being so beat, that standing, let alone casting a spell is hard. I was thinking about subdual damage being tied to casting, as it would simulate the effects of magic in SR.

Reputation is important in any SR campaign, as that is how players get the big paying jobs. Reputation was somewhat touched upon in d20 Star Wars, though I havn't seen if it had changed much since the revision. Shadowrunners most definitely know about other Shadowrunners. It's a public rep a runner does not want.

The classes discussion for me is the difficult decision. Yes, I will admit, a "typical" shadowrun campaign has "classes": deckers, mages, shamans, (ki) adepts, and street sams. However, I do like the idea of a classless system (perhaps similar to d20 Call of C'thulu?). I'll have to think on that more...

Decking would not be that difficult in my opinion, in respect to the actions of a decker and IC. Simple skill tests with DCs set for different tasks. What WILL be difficult is system design.

Most other aspects of SR is somewhat similar to d20, as they are tests against target numbers, just do a DC with a d20, as opposed to a target number with multiple d6s.

Any thoughts on this?

I don't know if digital burn is covering "net running" but I found that a graceful way to handle it is by allowing the decker/hacker to create a Shell. The Shell is a secondary character that lives only within the world of the net. The character is a just the manifestation of a package of hacking programs. So in essence the hacker is playing a character within the virtual world as if he were playing an adventure game with very high stakes.

As the hacker progresses in levels his Shell automatically increases in level too. It's simple and fast, your players already know how to play this game, and his character follows the same rules in the net - for the most part.
