D20 Style Guide

Hey Folks,

I was just wondering how the publisher community and the editorial community would recieve a standardized d20 style guide. One that listed the essential components for creating different types of stat blocks, how to present information on races, classes, spells, monsters, items, etc.

With it would be a best practice example for each of the types of standard blocks used in most d20 products. In addition would be guidelines for best practices in creating new stat-blocks for ease of migration into other d20 games, regardless of genre, setting, or format.

I know there are a lot of formats out there, but I think a style guide would help better define blocks of OGC. A standard, defacto or not, would be nice to have in the d20 industry, as I see a schism starting to form in how templates and information are presented. With each innovation in presentation, the stat blocks are starting to change.

Maybe a d20 style guide wouldn't be such a bad way to keep things in line?

Now I'm not saying I want to write such a thing, but I know I could help with it (as could many others on this board) if it were released as OGC and a companion to the SRD. Sucha style guide might just be a nice little handbook to have when typing up the next new format for starships or mecha.

Just a thought. Or am I resurrecting a dead horse here?

Nice, but...

That's not exactly what I'm talking about.

I'm talking about a standard style guide for writing out templates like race, class, item, starship, to better create portability.

I'm not talking about just a stat block standard although that would be part of it. I'm talking about format standards for racial templates, a master list of accepted abbreviations, a list of best practices for creating new templates (be they class, race, or monter, etc.).

What the best style for writing out a character class, a monster, or a new race would be, that's what I mean.
