D20 Superheroes: what to buy?

We will be posting a 8-9 page preview of Vigilance: absolute Power soon. In the meantime, Imagine check out the reviews of Vigiliance and Darkness and Light (the PDF products) and imagine that Vig:absolute power is both books combined and expanded with all new top comic artists and lots of new stuff.

One of the things that attracted me to Vigilance is how it kept true to the d20 system rules while still staying very balanced and enjoyable (within a supers game).

I wanna do Superheroes in D20 and I've heard of a coupla systems to do so, but I don't know what to get. I want to be able to have obnoxiously powerful characters. Alot of Flexibilitywould be nice too. What can one get for that? Thanx for the help.

Seems like someone starts a new thread like this every week. I suggest everyone just chill out until Mutants & Masterminds comes out later this month. Everything I've seen leads me to believe that the other games discussed in this thread will be Zan, Jana, and Gleek to M&M's Superman, but we'll know for sure very soon. The GR folks said they'll probably ship pre-orders on Friday, so I hope to have my copy Monday or Tuesday.

Super Hero Systems

On my shelves and computer I have...

D&D *grin*
Original TSR Marvel Supers
Heroes Unlimited
Aberrant
SAS d20
4C2F
Comic Book Super Heroes
Paragon
The Foundation
Godlike

Now of all these, I haven't had a chance to buy the ink cartridge and paper for my housemate top print off 4C2F on down and I know I'll need physical copies printed before I give more than the basic glances I've given.

From what I've seen, if you're looking to just add super powers to your world and want to know how best to do it, definietly grab 4C2F. It's just awesome for that and the Wealth to Power Point chart for characters is cool. Just had a cool idea on how to install super powers into an existing game too. Not gonna tell it all, but let's just say epic spell casting is the cause :)

The Foundation and Godlike haven't gotten much attention from me yet as I just grabbed them to look at later, but Comic Book Super Heroes seems like a good system for a standalone. SAS is interesting but almost seems needlessly complex in developing characters. Plenty of flexibility is good, but sometimes it ends up bad too :) Still, once I've read thru it and made a few characters it will probably be much easier. If nothing else it's been a good read so far

Like a lot of other people, i am just ichtin to get my mits on Mutants & Masterminds. I've been following it for about 3 months now and i really think it just may unseat MEGS/DC Heroes for the best Super game on the market. On my list anyway. :)

non-D20 Hero Clix

Hero Clix has awesome figures. Not so sure about the gameplay or the rules, but the figures kick butt.

Best part is, you can always use the figures with other game systems.
