I'd agree with this. It's kind of like saying I want to play d20 but i dont want to read the srd or get a phb what should I use? If I'm going to do something I got to do it right and I"d just wait for Serenity to come out.

I will say that before Margeret Weis got the rights to Serenity, I played a Firefly RPG d20 at a couple of local conventions last year based off of the Spycraft engine.

I would use Mongoose's Babylon 5 ruleset if you want the deadly combat vibe (plus it has psionics). But really if I ran it I would use GURPS or Chaosium's BRP instead.

d20 Modern + d20 Future + Insanity rules for River (from Unearthed Arcana or CoC d20)

Perhaps even a bit of d20 Past for the real backwater planets.

B5 would work pretty well, its a very similar tech and psi level. But GURPS could work too - and there is a GURPS:Traveller sourcebook that would give some useful info for that tech level, as well.

I wouldn't even bother with the insanity rules, unless you planned to have player characters going mad during the scenario. :) Just write up Roleplay notes for a River or River-esque character.

I'm confused, Henry. Doesn't everyone have player characters going mad during scenarios? ;)

Call of Serenity RPG

"That is not dead
which can with Browncoats lie
and with strange Neilsens
even Joss may die."

I dunno if the Sanity rules are that out of place. Look at what happens to people forced to watch Reaver attacks...
