D20 Vaporware

Anyone remember "Mystical Alchemy Gameworks"? It was one of the first d20 companies announced on Eric Noah's old site, when the "industry" pretty much consisted of Necromancer, Green Ronin, Atlas, and the terrible imprint that brought us "The Foundation: A World in Black and White."

Very impressive website. Lots of interesting product hints.

Nothing ever happened.

Pulp Cthulhu is perhaps my most lamented d20 vaporware (not counting the fabled Stoink manuscript mentioned upthread). John Rateliff was to have been invovled, if I remember correctly.

Delta Green is another one I would have liked to see. We printed a Delta Green d20 adventure in Polyhedron, and mentioned the "forthcoming" d20 sourcebook in our "First Watch" column.

After a while, I got so sick of telling my readers about products I knew would never come out that I stopped talking about certain companies altogether.

But then Polyhedron itself "stopped," so I guess the joke was on me. :)

Details on the Companions adventures can be found at http://www.stud.uni-hamburg.de/users/afterglo/rpg/nontsr/others_ak/index.html:

and the discussion about the Islandia campaign books on the Acaeum boards is at http://www.acaeum.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1410

TheAuldGrump---do you know anything further about Sacrifices to the Orc Lord, or would
Peter Rice? IIRC, Wheeler's still findable/in the industry....

Much like the Judges Guild material, I still own a lot of the Companions stuff and man, it was some great material. Good maps, details, further details and all sorts of ideas to get involved in your normal campaign. I'm surprised that no one ever took their magic book and made it a d20 product.

d20 vaporware that I would like? (most mentioned already)

- Bard's Gate (Necro Games) - stays vapor until it's in my hot little hands!
- City of Brass (Necro Games) - ditto
- Sword of Air (Necro Games)
- Wrath of Orcus (Necro Games)
- Of Sound Mind II (FDP)
- Gates of Oblivion (FDP)

I thought MEG picked them up, or am I getting mixed up? Wasn't Phil Reed going to be the editor for the new mag?

I think that's correct. But since MEG is dead and Phil is busy enough for 5 people, GF is dead as well.

I don't own copies of these, but would be happy to trade if anyone has them :D

I was and we started work but then a shift in sales led to the project's stall and collapse. As much as I love magazines it truly appears that they're dead for the current market.

Oh, and vaporware? Let's sadly add ENWorld Gamer to that. (Although I think it's mentioned in the thread, I'm sorry to see it go.)

Not vaporware... as it at least did come out and was available in stores.

Alas, no longer.

Of Sound Mind II is also much desired. Kevin, what are you doing on the boards? Go write! ;)
Was it ever promised, or just much desired? Can't really call it vaporware if it's just the latter.
