d6 gaming system

I had a crazy idea in one of my classes the other day. We were going over the statistics and all that of dice rolling, and the teacher brought up polyhedral dice, something I and the teacher only understood (now my favorite teacher). However, what this brought up was how the multisided dice are confusing to new comers, and that made me think.

Why are there no systems that use only a d6 for rpgs?
I know some use d10s only, and some use the d20 even more, and it seems the more faces to a die the more chances and thus the more fun, but then I remembered Fiasco.

Fiasco uses only d6, rolled at the start of the game, the dice are used to create the characters and their relationships with the others, then given out throughout based on various actions and winning scenes, or losing....if you know Fiasco you understand.

The point is, Fiasco is a role-play heavy, with no rolling, no stats, and so on.It's simple and pure.

This purity grew in my mind like a fungus spore on roadkill.

What if you used only d6?

It would be a simpler game, and modifiers of who your character is means more. This would either be a hay-day for power gamers or a great chance for some amazing role play.

Anyone think this could be a good idea?
Or am I just in dire need of sleep?

The d6 Space, Adventure and...the third one for fantasy...are all free and and available on RPGNow, the old West End Games star wars was a precursor to these systems.

The upcoming Iron Kingdoms core rules have a d6 mechanic

Mouseguard, Burning Empires and Burning Wheel are also d6

There are others. I wasnt trying to poopoo your excitement, but perhaps the other existing d6 games could inform or influence a new game that might be cooking in your head :-)

The Hero system only uses d6s.

IIRC, classic Traveler was d6 only as well.

The uni-system (All Flesh Must be Eaten) uses a variety of polyhedrals.

I should rephrase.

Why are the FEW systems that are famous?

This thread is very eye opening, my lack of game knowledge is showing, but hey, at least you guys are nice about clearing it up.
