I don't think so.

So far you've suffered more than any of us. I don't think anyone would complain if you banned him from the site.

I wonder how many of the people who purchased his "product" had never bought a PDF before. Even if it's one person there's a chance that person will never buy another PDF.

His "foot-in-mouth" goes much farther then you all may know and I'm getting to the point of simply banning this guy from RPGNow for all future.

People like him hurt everyone. Other publishers, WOTC, the d20 Licenses, and RPGNow.com ... do we really need this book that badly?

In a single word, no. His continuing juvenile remarks and refusal to take 100% of the blame upon himself shows that he will never get the point. I agree that you would be well justified to permanently ban him from your store. You do not need that kind of bad press nor that kind of amateurish behavior associated with RPGNow. If he wants to sell it so bad, let him try to do it from his own website. That will ensure that he will have no one he could possibly blame other than himself. Well, other than the various "conspiracy theories" he subscribes to...

I DO take 100% of the blame for messing up on the OGL license! Again and AGAIN if need be, I take the blame!

I have recieved an explenation from Anthony at WotC about what took so long to contact me, and I accept it. I have been told by WotC_legal what needs to be altered, and done so.

Am I now to be banned form selling my product, now that it is all finally DONE?

You know, we would take the apology more seriously if you would remove this line from your sig back at the WotC boards:

The dream is dead. TO any who are reading this: WotC has managed to kill off any hopes I ever had of being a published author. Don't expect any more posts anytime soon, like EVER!
It still looks like you're blaming WotC.

Of course, it's possible you just forgot to edit your sig again?

My advice is a practical one coming forn a freelancer perspective. Let it ride and wait for approval.

In the meantime, write something else, an adventure, another resource. Be creative, your not ruined, your only ruined if you don't go beyond what has already been done. Begin a new project , you'll get absorbed into it, and with all the attentive to OGL practice, it may be your best concept yet, whatever it is.

I have 8 projects going at a time, its good to let things gel and work on something else.

Why do you keep saying this?

I bought his pdf as a Psionic Companion and that is what I got. I am completly satified with my purchase and to be honest I don't care about it's SRD, I'm buying it for it's D&D aspects (Something that no one here has even mentioned, are you guys gamers or lawers?)

Strutinan is just trying to bring his game to gamers. Hasn't every DM thought that his game would make a great product at least once? He has gone a lot farther than most of us ever would.

Do you guys treat new gamers like this? Yell at them and call them stupid when they get the game rules wrong? Try to get them banned from the Local Gaming store because they created a Drow Ranger? At least the D&D rules are in print for everyone to read. The WOC SRD does not include Psionics and the Open Gaming Foundation's is incomplete, the powers have no descriptions. Spells have descriptions, so do I just assume the the powers are suposed to be here, but just haven't been typed in yet? Are the powers that are the same as spells SRD since the spells do have description? Most of this sacred SRD you guys keep quoting seems to be unwritten rules that only certain people know.

As to banning him from RPGNow, James I have been a very good customer there, with Darwin's World and here with the EnWorld store.

If you ban him, You ban me as well!

Yes, Strutinan has said somethings he now regrets, but this IS his baby. How did you take your first Editorial Attack? If you came up and said these things about my gardens the only thing that would be removed is you! (and you can ask my local City Zoning Inspector about that! He still has the Mayor's footprint on his backside. You don't mess with a Druid's grove)

Strutinan, Jay, as I said on the WoC Psi Boards, You have one satisfied customer here. IMHO, your book shows someone with a much better understanding of Psionics than The Q-PsyWar book does and your stuff goes into my game without a complaint.

Don't let this assault of angry Grinches get you down and please try to have a Merry Christmas!

Heathen,
Those are wise words that you have spoken. I agree entirely. It would be good for Strutinan to stretch his skills and works while waiting... the more flexible one becomes in this field the better. On the note of 8 things at once that's about what I do with the company that I work for... of course then it's also true that I am mainly a crunch designer so that's my job in the first place (go in and add game details).

8 things at once, how in the world do you find the time to do all that? that's cool that a person can do that. I am having trouble with three things right now, but this is the holiday season.

As for this situation, I only ask a question: Who hasn't made a mistake before? He obviously likes psionics, more so than most people, and he wanted to provide a product that other psionicist lovers would like. But he did go about it in the wrong manner. In this thread and others yes he did get advice at first, but it seemed he truly wanted to see if he could do it himself without anybody's help, and that was his goal. Of course, in the process, he broke all the d20/OGL rules as pertaining to IP and the SRD and didn't do enough research for it. But he shouldn't be banned in the future, especially now that his name is known and his future products will be looked at more closely. Also, in this thread a few posts above, he acknowledges his mistake and is trying to make it right, and in all fairness when he is done with it, and he should finish it because it would be a shame to put all that hard work to the scrap heap, he should be given one more shot with the product. He should take the necessary time to be absolutely sure his product is compliant with all necessary guidelines before releasing it again, but when that time comes, I say let him release it. I think he has learned his lesson, and I think anybody who reads these threads will also learn what is required to write a book that is compliant and what not to do.

So, did he make a mistake? Yes. Should he be completely banned after this mistake? No, unless he does not learn from this with his next release. Did he learn from this? I think he did, but only he knows for sure. Did we all learn something from this? Absolutely we did, we all learned something, and we all learned how easy it is for even the best editers and writers of these games to come to a rash decision as to completely ban someone from something because of a mistake.

To the author of the book: Keep up the work, don't throw it away at all. Sometimes the greatest pieces of work comes from a big mixup, which is all this is. I don't know if you know the whole story of steven king, or if you like him, but he got successful off of carrie, a book he originally finished and threw into the trash can because he thought it was bad. The only thing that saved him was his wife digging into the trash can just before the garbage people came and she told him to send it off. He got $400,000 for it. Basicaly, he gave up on something he spent a year on and it was the one thing that set him up for life. So, you don't give up on your work, and who knows where you might end up. At least you can say you didn't give up, no matter what others may be saying.

Heathen: I got approved earlier today, just need RPGNow to make the copy I uploaded to them availible for sale. As far as working on other projects goes, its advice I was already taking. Right now I'm starting the (delayed) concept stage for the Lands of Molokai.

Dark Psion: Its nice to know somebody likes my work! The LoM will have campaign-specific psionic extras, some of which are bound to see print in future editions of the Psionics Companion. Thanks for the words of encouragement, I needed them.
