We had this discussion before... it doesn't say you can use it multiple times and neither did 2nd ed (don't remember anyone speaking up about 1st ed).

Of course we've always played that it was multi-use and so does everyone else that commented.

I've always thought that DIF was a multiuse item too, but I also can't quote any rules on that, except for the price. For what it does, it definately would not be worth the 55,000gp for a single use. Basically, it's nothing more than a really fancy tent. :) That's all. I think multiuse is in line with the price.

well in second ed it did give rules for being caught inside it when it closed... so slosing would give the impression that it can get bigger and smaller. In this case it says nothing about getting smaller again, but for that price it really should.

you took like 10d6 damage or something similar. I used it as a form of atack in some cases, you could throw it at people trigger the command word and they'd take damage if they were near it

Oh! So it's similar to what happens in 3rd edition when it is first activated and you get caught up in it, which is 10d10 (reflex half DC19). Cool. I'll need to remember that if someone gets caught inside one of those suckers. :D

That was quite popular in my group too. It worked even better when some monster with a big mouth was trying to take a bite out of your PC. I have good memories of a DIF and a certain dragon's rectum :D

Like 85% of 2nd Ed., and practically all magic items, the 2nd Ed. specification was a direct xerox of 1st Ed. rules. It didn't directly specify a re-shrinking process, either.

The current 10-100 damage for being caught in the expansion, for example, is still unchanged, directly from 1st Ed. rules.

Well, considering an ordinary, plain-jane stone tower is 50,000 gp. Having it made of adamantine and buildable where ever you want is a pretty good deal for the extra 5,000 gp.
