When I look at Darrington Press, I see average to 'Meh!' board games from them on BGG. When I look at their 5e product "Tal’Dorei Campaign Setting Reborn", with 4 reviews on DTRPG and 80 globally with Amazon, sure they score high, but not a large enough pool of reviews to get anything resembling a balanced view. For something that's out for almost 2 years, that ain't great imho. Another generic fantasy system in this market, the only advantage is that they have the Critical Role name behind them and that gives me Exploding Kitten vibes. A hype sold on fans of the makers, while being a 'Meh!' game at best. I don't get the impression that Tales of the Valiant, DC20, etc. are doing all that well either, I don't see that improving for Daggerheart. If it has fans, great! I really hope for you that it's well supported for you. But I don't see myself ever buying that (except maybe a whole collection in a Bundle of Holding or Humble Bundle for cheap). If I want some generic Fanatasy I'll just go with D&D 5e or Pathfinder 2e. If I want something with a certain flavour, The Dark Eye 5e or WFRP4e. If I want something unique Blades in the Dark or Spire/Heart. If I want to look outside of that, Vampire 20th, Ars Magica 5e, Shadowrun (5e or Anarchy), Mothership, Kids on Bikes, etc. And then there is a whole slew of games that look interesting, but don't know if I would even want to play, pretty much the whole Free League catalog, Paranoia, Wildsea, Exalted, Delta Green, Lancer, a whole slew of 40k RPGs, Torg, etc. I see to many people that jump on these projects because they either hate WotC (which is ironic as these companies became big due to WotC and D&D) or they want a better/perfect system (a perfect system will never exist, at best one that suits you better). I keep getting xkcd 927 fibes (Standards), developing a new 'universal standard'... ;) Even if it is mechanically strong, D&D 4e has shown us that you can't sustain your product on just name and strong mechanics. I would be curious how this will be supported 2 years, 5 years and 10 years into the future. Something like Fantasy Age has gotten a second edition, and still being supported after almost 10 years.
