Does a caster have to be taking damage at the exact moment of casting to initiate a concentration check or just during their initiative?
Say a caster is in combat and sees another character ready a ranged attack. He sees the guy giving him the hairy eyeball and knows that as soon as he starts casting he is gonna get stung. The spell can save his a$$.
Scenario A
There is no cover anywhere. He know his concentration check is likely to fail. He bluffs(able to do this as an MEA) to fake spellcasting trying to get the guy to fire and succeeds. He takes 14 damage. Now he casts a spell with no penalty since the damage occured a moment ago not during the actual casting. Correct?
Scenario B
There is cover available. The guy with the readied action has stated "if he starts casting or runs for cover I shoot". The caster runs for cover takes 14 damage and then casts his spell with no penalties. Correct?
Scenario C
There is no cover. A second enemy cast Ice Storm on our caster. (Full round duration) He takes 18 damage. On our caster's initiative he moves back away from the enemy with the readied action. This interposes the Ice strom between him and the readied attack. He begins to cast and the arrow does not survive the trip though the Ice Storm to strike him. Does he cast with no penalties or since Ice Storm is a full round duration does it count as continous damage and trigger the check even though he is no longer in the area of effect?
