Damage Resistance vs. Ability damage

Does Damage Resistance stop ability damage from attacks that don't bypass DR, such as a shadow's strength draining touch?

Only if it's tied to damaging - a poisoned arrow doesn't inflict poison if the arrow doesn't deal damage due to DR, but the shadow's touch works fine. Read the DMG.
