Damage while spiderclimbing.

If you're spiderclimbing and you take damage, do you have to make a Climb check to hold on? Do you get the normal +8 bonus for having a Climb speed?

"The subject gains a climb speed of 20 feet; furthermore, it need not make Climb checks to traverse a vertical or horizontal surface (even upside down)".

Since taking damage while climbing causes you to make a Climb check, it depends on whether you feel the spirit of the ability is defined by the emphasis, or if you place importance on the "to traverse" portion of the phrase. You can argue "to traverse" only covers intentional movement on the part of the character, and therefore the spell doesn't yield any benefit when taking damage by strict wording. But I think the spirit of the spell is in the emphasis.

If you decide you do need to make a check, then you definitely gain the +8 bonus since the spell explicity grants you the Climb mode of movement. The bonus is an intrinsic benefit to that particular movement mode.

Yes to both questions.

But note that you can always take 10 on your check, even in combat (since you have a climb speed), and the DC of the check to hang on is the same as the DC to climb the slope or wall in the first place, so it will be a rare situation where taking damage will actually cause you to fall.

Really? Normally you can't take 10 on anything in combat, except for skill expertise (level 10 rogue and skill master prc).

I agree with yes to both questions part.

Take a look at the Climb skill description. Any creature with a Climb speed "can always can choose to take 10, even if rushed or threatened while climbing." Swim has similar language.
