Damn you George Lucas!

Here's how we will get films 7-9: Uwe Boll will direct #7, Bloody Reign of th Sith; Michael Bay follows with #8, Transformation of the Cyber-Jedi; M. Night Shaymalan closes with #9, The Force Happens.

All of the other stuff will wind up on Oprah's OWN network (when she outbids G4) as a series in which the direcorial work will be handled by music video directors.

Finally, Jar-Jar Binks will get a spinoff advice show on OWN.

And there will be much sadness.
I feel a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror.

In all seriousness, I am not surprised the first 3D conversions will start with the prequels. Remember that in 1999 Lucas was starting to shoot digitally and ILM has the ability to not only re-master the recorded version but also to access the digital CGI assets from the computer and re-shape them for 3D.

Converting the prequel trilogy will be much easier and less time than converting the original and the 1980s sequels. Regardless of Lucas' own feelings about quality and importance, I think from a practical standpoint you'd want do it in timeline order rather than original release order because it is going to take more work to do the conversion from the 33 year old "Star Wars" print, and I am sure they are working on the conversions concurrently.

These days, George Lucas is like a crazy, albeit phenomenally wealthy, panhandler. When he starts making noise, it's best to just ignore him. Try not to make eye contact. Whatever you do, don't give him any money.

This. I still have my tape of the original in its original form, and something to play it on, so I won't be going to see the 'new and improved' stuff when it comes out.

As for the 12 episodes, he mentioned them early, mostly in fan interviews IIRC, and had pretty much cut them down to 9 shortly after, or even before, the 1977 release of Star Wars. So yeah, grandios plans that got changed and mostly never materialized that he now refuses to admit ever existed. Which is what really bugs me. C'mon George, its out there in black and white (if you can find the quotes). But what he says about perceptions is unfortunately pretty true. In a hundred years no one will care about, much less know about, the truth.

However much I might complain and moan now, I have a feeling that unless the 3d of the three original movies is terrible, I'll probably still go see them.

I mean, I've seen a lot of terrible movies just because my friends and I have an evening free and nothing decent happens to be out at the moment.

Well, yeah, same here. I'd almost certainly go see them.
But, you know, I think you just explained something like 97.2% of all of modern society.

If they're revised with the Phantom Edit in mind I might see them. Otherwise, I'll never see them, pretty much like I'm avoiding 3D movies entirely if there isn't a 2D version near me.

Yeah, well, remember this?

"<snip>. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won't last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version (the Special Edition)."
-American Cinematographer, February 1997.

Yes, well, in 30 years I'll be 66, in 40, 76. I doubt I'll care by then. Hell, in 40 years, I should think I'll be lucky to still be alive.
