Finally watched this. I'd like to see what the script looked like before Mille Bobbie Brown and her mom got ahold of it, as you can feel the movie being wrenched away from the director and screenwriter repeatedly to give MBB more hero moments, even when it's already clear she is the hero. There are a few plot holes -- how come Henry doesn't already have a cut on his hand when he marries Elodie? why is there a big colony of birds deep inside a cave? does the dragon not come out or eat or anything? did no other princess mention the actual last daughter of the royal line was back at the castle? -- but the film has good bones. It's interesting to see a modern D&D/Pathfinder dragon on screen, as opposed to the ones in Game of Thrones, which look to me much more like refugees from Northrend in World of Warcraft. The girl power stuff doesn't seem to extend beyond Elodie, which is a shame. First, don't waste Angela Freakin' Bassett like this, and secondly, giving the little sister more fleshing out could have given us all three women standing up to the dragon and the corrupt kingdom together. All of the MBB-starring films have been OK, but not amazing. I think what she really needs at this point is to be part of a successful ensemble film, not The Star, as the films being shaped around that have so far all been hurt by it.
