I would say you have the right of it. We are given the core rules, with a lot of optionals that he went ahead and made "official" and then took the liberty of adding some of his own spin on things. All of which is just fine when we all remember that all of these rules were first and foremost "guidelines", and only considered "official" if you participated in convention events.

So "customizable" is the key word for any RPG game, especially these early D&D games, as was pointed out even in the 1E DMG, from which the quote that touches upon this that is in my sig comes from.

My sig is my "guiding force" for any RPG I run, period.

Technically RJ called it a 'restro-clone' not a retro clone. I'm wondering if that is something of a restored, yet modified clone. Maybe that's why it is all crazy?
