Dark*Matter write-in campaign (should I bother?)

Since Dark*Matter is already heavily integrated into core d20 Modern, especially in the Menace Manual book, I'm not sure I understand what more you really want to see.
I think it can be argued that what's been lifted from D*M for d20M so far, including Shades of Grey, in no way comprise any of the things that made D*M so wonderful.

What made D*M cool was not stats for sandmen (excuse me, sandSLAVES), or yet more PrCs.

What made D*M cool was that I was almost too scared to turn out the lights after reading it at night. What made D*M cool was that it had me questioning my knowledge of history and what constitutes the "truth" the same way my reading Robert Anton Wilson used to.

(This is why I was so disappointed with Urban Arcana. I was hoping it would be sort of a fantasy version of D*M, i.e., a book full of wonderful ideas, people, and places. Instead it was just more rules and guidelines. The d20M crew seems to really stink at "fluff".)

Anyway, I own the original D*M, so I don't need any of this material that badly. Honestly, though, I'd buy a word-for-word reprint of D*M with d20M stats substituted for Alternity stats in a heartbeat.

And without MiBs turned into goofy fantasy demon-guys. :\

Amen, brother. It's kind of frustrating that a great setting like DM is relegated to a 60-page "mini-setting" that painted the setting in broad strokes, when the subtle nuances are what made D*M so cool. I hate to use these terms but D*M was more "fluff" than "crunch", which is why WotC won't do it. They seem to be more concerned with game mechanics that a excellently written setting.

And yeah, I own the original DMCS too, and I'd buy a word-for-word re-print with d20M stats without thinking twice. ;)

You've obviously never read the original Dark*Matter hardcover campaign setting.

Josh has, actually. Granted, I bought the printed copy at Games Plus before he could, so he had to get a PDF. :p

I still haven't forgiven you! Although if you run a session of it, I just might!

My point is, the mechanical aspects of Dark*Matter converted to d20 Modern are fairly well covered in terms of adversaries. The "fluff" aspects of it are unchanged from the Alternity copy. The only thing we're really missing is an update of the F/X from a D&D style system to a more D*M style system, but even that can probably be picked up second hand (Shadowforce Archer, or Green Ronin's Psychic Handbook, for instance.) Although it would be cool to have Dark*Matter reprinted for d20 Modern, I wonder if it's necessary really to play d20 Dark*Matter. Sure, it'd be more convenient to have a single book rather than three or four books and a few pages of handwritten conversion notes, but lacking any real need for the setting to be reprinted, I wonder what would motivate WotC to do so.

I'd hope it would simply be the incredible quality of the product; I'd also think it would garner a bigger fan base than Urban Arcana, which seems to have basically fizzled into nothingness. There have to be poeple out there who don't own the Alternity version already who'd be interested.

Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if the mini-game and the contents of Menace Manual weren't due in part to the outcries of fans. I didn't get the impression that WotC had any intentions of doing anything with D*M for d20M, initially. But my memory could be foggy.

I'll take credit! I asked Erik forever and a day ago about a D*M mini-game, about the time he was asking what people would want to see in a Gmma World mini-game in fact.
