Dark Side Sourcebook

So it appears the Dark Side Sourecbook has been reprinted. Is that really ethical? Apart from not being updated to the current rules (and even reprinting older versions of prestige classes included in the book)... the book itself has substantial errata which has not even been corrected, such as Sith lacking deflect.

It seems bizarre to me. On the one hand, it is theoretically better for the book to be available than not, but on the other hand, what is the point of printing something that is both broken and out-dated?

"ethical"? It's a business, supply and demand. When copies of the DSSB are going for well over $100 on eBay, even knowing fully that it's not for the current version of the rules, demand says it's the right thing to do.

There is a free conversion/update of the DSSB to RCR rules on the WotC site, so it can essentially be for the current version of the rules. The DSSB was also the best sourcebook made for the OCR version of the rules, and one of the best d20 Star Wars books made, even if I was running d6 Star Wars (or another non-d20 system for Star Wars) I'd still use the DSSB as a reference book.

I do not consider the book "broken" and just because the rules aren't up to the newest standard doesn't mean it's "outdated", it is widely regarded as one of the most in-demand and popular Star Wars sourcebooks. If I didn't have it already I'd be buying it now, which is what WotC is likely counting on with the reprint.

Not that ethics has to do with this case, they stated publicly they're reprinting the book. They didn't say about revising it. If you want updates to the RCR for the reprinted book, you can find it HERE.

Im not sure what's unethical about providing people with a book for 20-30 dollars they were buying for five TIMES that amount.

Sounds to me like WOTC is looking to turn a profit while also helping their customers out. Seems like good business to me.

Would anyone like to buy my Hero's Guide? Because I think I can beat that price...

Would it be wrong to buy up a bunch of copies locally, then offer then for sale on Amazon at prices ranging between $250 and $2000? People buy the cheapest, thinking they're getting a bargain. ;)

PS For anyone looking to buy these types of books, get hold of someone in Europe to look for you. Just off the top of my head, I know a couple of shops here in the Netherlands still selling them at normal prices.
