D&D General Dark Sun as a Hopepunk Setting

I tend to agree with @Remathilis on this in that Mystara was mentioned in the 5e 2014 but appears absent from 5e 2024 (I do not have the books to 100% confirm) which indicates that Dark Sun is possibly still on the cards, once they are happy with their psionic system. I do not think its mention is merely a cash grab.

As a Mystara fan I'm happy they are leaving it alone.
The fandom produces more than enough content for me for inspiration, and doesn't worry about supposed metaphorical connections with real life. Inspiration and idea-sharing for good-storytelling is where it is at.
I'm of the opinion that the fandom does better work for WotC-owned settings than WotC does, and has for a while now, whether that's through the DMGuild or straight homebrew.

I do wonder why they'd keep the door open for a setting as thorny as Dark Sun but leave a kitchen sink setting like Mystara off the table.

Tbh wouldn't do a 5E darksun in a home game.

I might do a 5E inspired game. Sorcerer Kings in effect archfiend level in power that function as demigods. Templar are clerics.

Opposed by druids, add defiling, dump psionics, import faction like the Veiled Alliance and build it ground up for 5E.

The heat for example inflicts exhaustion levels.

Probably cause Mystara is yet another pretty generic fantasy setting in lieu of Greyhawk and Realms. On the other hand, DS is unique and unlike any other setting.

And to be honest, i don't particularly want WoTC to touch DS with 11 foot pole. When you file off everything needed to drop it from 18+ to 12+, lot of what makes DS unique, special and fun, goes away. Personally, i would rather that they lincense it to someone who will give it good mechanical update to 5e, but keep it 18+.

If we ever start another DS campaign, i'll probably do the crunch myself, but instead of vanilla 5e, i'll use 5e LOTR as a baseline.
