hey scribble, i checked out your campaign wiki and its pretty cool! so do you think the essentials will be worth buying? and im kinda new to dnd, so whats the big deal with dark sun? but i do know its not sopposed to have gods and be kinda desalate right?

Thanks- Wow I just realized it's been over a year since my last game in that campaign. (Moved back to the east coast.)

Essentials- I think they will be... Even as an "experienced" player I like a lot of what I'm seeing so far... And the extras like monster tokens and what not in the monster book excites me. (I like "included" stuff what can I say...)


Dark Sun is... Well- kind of a post apocalyptic world where the starting world was a fantasy word... Instead of technology/nukes and what not destroying the world, magic did it instead.

So it's a dying desert world controlled by evil "sorcerer kings."

It's the type of world that if you're looking for a fantasy setting that doesn't remind you of Tolkien at all- this would be the one for you.

The imagery and story elements are very evocative.

Definitely worth at least checking out.

sounds like it! well i dont understand the essentials. is it a new version of the game of is it just sumerizing the rules and giving a basic lay out of the game?

Well- haven't not seen it in full yet myself... Don't trust me as the ultimate source...

But- from what it seems they're a new re-packaging of the rules, designed to make it easier for new players to get into the game, along with a few new options. Same game overall that's out there right now though.

ok well thats cool. so what are some of the other campaigns that dnd 4E has? or is it just ebrron, forgotten realms, and soon to be dark sun?

I am now waiting for the DDI article that gives us the Pirate theme...

Themes do sound good - real good - but maybe they should have expanded backgrounds more, there seems to be a some overlap there.

Yeah... I could see that, but I think the idea works because now you have a way to make your past radically different then your present/future.

Like you could have a gladiator past (background) but then move into a noble adept theme...
