Pathfinder 2E to Add Jotunborn Ancestry in Battlecry

Pathfinder 2E will add a new giant-themed ancestry in this summer's Battlecry! rulebook. Earlier this week over on Polygon, Paizo revealed new details about their upcoming yearly rulebook, which will add the Commander and Guardian martial classes to the game. The Jotunborn are described as a "massive" new option for players to use, and are a new kind of giant that hail from an "alternate plane of existence." Jotunborn tend to giant beetles whose silk is used to create glowing subdermal ritualistic markings. In the aftermath of the War of the Immortals and the Godsrain (resulting from the death of Gorum, the god of war), some Jotunborn are now trapped in Pathfinder's campaign setting of Golarion.

A new adventure path called Hellbreakers was also announced, which will follow a war between the democratic country of Andoran and the devil-backed nation of Cheliax. The war kicks off with the assassination of a foreign dignitary. Pathfinder adventure paths often result in massive changes to the status quo of Cheliax, so this could mark the end of one or both major countries, which have long loomed large over the Inner Sea region.

Battlecry! will be released this summer, while Hellbreakers will be released in early 2026.

Considering that Andoran gets a supplement this year, that wouldn't bode well for Cheliax.

I've been wanting something along the lines of the Jotunborn, they'll fit very nicely into my homebrew setting, and I'm already looking forward to Jotunborn Soldiers (from Starfinder) at my tables, based on where they fit into my lore. In my setting Giants are a people who fought the Profanity (the all-consuming force bent on the end of reality) by devouring Spirits of their homeworld to create more powerful hybrid entities (e.g. the actual Monster Giants, like Fire Giants, Storm Giants, etc), but it failed to be sufficient and they fled that world to this one.

With this player ancestry I think I finally know what the base form of Giants is when unfused.

My first take with the art is…he’s wearing battle mittens. Guess it makes sense if they are from the frozen cold areas but still odd enough in fantasy ttrpg art to make me pause for a second and think about it. The head and neck have a Prometheus movie vide going with the head and neck in the pose.
