Dark Sun Game Day

This weekend, it's Dark Sun Game Day.

I'll be sitting in my FLGS, running sessions for anyone who wants to play - which probably means one or two groups. Those of us who are there will probably have fun.

Unfortunately, there'll be one thing missing: a copy of the Dark Sun Campaign Setting. They won't arrive until later (possibly next week) rather than being available during the event.

Does this seem odd to you? It seems odd to me. The supplier of my FLGS is Wizards Australia, so they're coming directly from Wizards (effectively). But too late for the day.

So, Dark Sun Game Day without the campaign setting. I hope I won't need anything from it to run the adventure...

Cheers!

Ah!

My FLGS ran this last Saturday, actually got into a debate about when it was with the owner, I figured I just made a mistake about the 21st.

I will get to run it on the day!

cool!

Hopefully the adventure is self contained enough. I took a perfunctory look at the pregens, but I'll bet they won't need the core book either.

I haven't needed it for the bulk of the Encounters program, and having read the gameday adventure, you won't need if for that either. I keep thinking it's on the 24th, but that's the Gamma World gameday.

Which is your FLGS? I'm going to try to get along to Good Games (in the city), as it seems to be the only one advertising a games day near me, but it's going to be a bit of a trek.

yeah, I don't know why WotC Australia is so poor at getting things here on time. Usually, some stores won't even advertise the books as "pre-order" until they've been out in the US for over a month. It is sad that Amazon can deliver books over a month earlier than WotC Australia can get them here...

Canadian here. I've volunteered to run it at my DnD Encounters store, and the August books have been on the shelf for the past week or so, and my Amazon order should be in tomorrow.

Is there a special adventure for the game day or will it be Marauders of the Dune Sea?

It's a special adventure:
Dungeons & Dragons Roleplaying Game Official Home Page - Event (Game Day)

D&D Dark Sun Game Day: August 21, 2010

Bring your friends and join in the fun as we celebrate the return of the beloved fan-favorite world Dark Sun, a campaign setting of harsh survival and savage enemies in a blasted land.

The Dark Sun release features three products designed to give you a wealth of new options for your Dungeons & Dragons game to get immersed in the world of Athas, whether you’re a player or a DM. The Dark Sun Campaign Setting gives you new character options and background on the Tyr Region, including two new playable races (mul and thri-kreen), new class builds and themes, and a host of setting-specific feats, equipment, and magic items. The Dark Sun Creature Catalog features hundreds of new monsters ready for battle and information on the dreaded sorcerer-kings that control the civilized lands. Marauders of the Dune Sea introduces you to the world of Dark Sun with a 32-page adventure taking you on a journey through the desolation of the Tabelands.

Just for participating you’ll take home the pregenerated character sheet of the character you played. If you DM the game, you’ll take home the adventure itself, a poster map of the encounter areas, and the tokens used in the adventure. To satisfy your curiosity, here’s a quick description of the adventure!

The Lost Cistern of Aravek
A remarkable device has been discovered in the wastes near the city-state of Tyr – a magical cistern created by a long-dead preserver named Aravek. You are charged to journey through the harsh desert lands, brave fierce monsters, and retrieve the cistern before your enemies can claim it for their own cruel master. Can you bring a font of live-giving water to a parched populace? Or will you succumb to dangers beyond the gates of Tyr? A Dark Sun adventure for 4-6 pregenerated 4th-level characters.

The pregenerated characters...

Kuori, a female goliath barbarian (gladiator) level 4.
Bost, a male mul fighter (wilder) level 4
Tomas Ovidius, a male human warlock (templar) level 4
Dai'Lo, a halfling ardent (wasteland nomad) level 4.
Whispereve, a female eladrin monk (dune trader) level 4.
Tak'Tha, a female thri-kreen seeker (elemental priest) level 4.

The adventure has no summary of the weapon breakage rules; I'm not sure if any of the adventurers weapons would be prone to breakage in any case.

The adventure looks fun. Not particularly deep, but it'd be pretty interesting to run as part of a campaign instead of just a game day; there's potential there for expansion.

Cheers!
