Dark Sun Preview at Pax East

I really liked the "risk breaking your weapon on a natural 1" option. It's fun that something tactically interesting happens on a 1. I do wonder how it will work at higher levels, when PCs have magic items to risk. Would you risk breaking a +3 sword (resale value 1800GP) to reroll an attack in a level-11 encounter (expected loot from the whole encounter about 1800GP)?

There might NOT be magic weapons at all...

WOTC might simply implement the "inherent bonus" system that was detailed in DMG2 and can be checked in the character builder.

Indeed, I would bet 50/50 that DS uses it.

I was curious how they'd to the thri-kreen's multiple arms. I like the free quick draw ability, though I think I would like to see some more overt support for their arms. Maybe an official statement saying they can hold X items at one time or something?

I would like to see a lot more about mul mechanics, though. The ability to sleep less and get a good result is becoming a common thread. It's nice and all but it is not that great. I hope whatever else the muls get, it's something awesome.

You know the character sheets are available online, right? You can look at the thri-kreen's stats there--I don't think they'd add any other features than stated there, such as holding more items or anything. Maybe coordinating the arms is clumsy?

They might already include it, but I, for one, am going to want at least one epic feat that I can take with my thri-kreen that lets me attack with four different weapons at least once in a blue moon.

It's just too badass. I get that you don't want to balance that from level one, but by 30th level, I want my spinning wirlwind of leaping, scurrying doom, even if I need to invest feats or a Paragon Path or something to get there.

Wow, I forgot how much I hated Dark Sun's back story.

(Okay, I'm lying. I never forgot it, I just wished I had.)

Far as I'm concerned, defilers--especially the uber-defiler known as the Dragon--sucked the life out of Athas, end of story. Keep it simple.

Damn, i just wanted to begin talking about the Rhistuli and their bioengineered, living backpacks.

Anyway, for those who are interested in that sort of thing: when the power of the sun was tapped for the first time it turned from blue to yellow. When it was tapped for the second time, it got bloated and turned red.
