D&D 5E Darkness Spell Vision

A character that is in the field of Darkness magic can see someone outside of the magic area? That someone outside the magic area can see who is inside of Darkness?

The text isn't completely clear. It says that even darkvision can't see "through" the darkness, which makes it sound like an opaque cloud to me. So I'd rule "no" to both of your questions. It's a powerful spell.

So powerful, WOTC eratted the vision rules to deal with the combo of Darkness & Truesight (and similar abilities).
