Overlord of Chat
Tonight, Wednesday, December 7th, the official chat room of EN World will be hosting a live moderated chat with D&D co-creator Dave Arneson and Dustin Clingman of Zeitgeist games! Attendees will have a chance to win a signed copy of the now-out-of print Dave Arneson's Blackmoor Campaign Setting hardback. Only one will win. This moderated chat will run from 5 PST to 6:30 PST (8 EST, 7 Central).

The focus will be on Dave Arneson's Blackmoor, the MMRPG, and the upcomming release of The Dungeons of Castle Blackmoor.

While out of print in it's current hardback form, Dave Arneson's Blackmoor is ONLY available at the EN World GameStore as a PDF download. Come and find out what the buzz is all about. The updated Core book available only at the EN World GameStore contains a new base class, a new prestige class and includes updates for locations and happenings in Blackmoor as results of player actions in Season 1 of the MMRPG campaign!

The chat will be held in EN World's chat room (click on the "Chat Room" link in the main menu or in the "Site Menu" dropdown at the top of each page). If you have an IRC client, you can log in via IRC:

IRC Information: http://www.psionics.net/
IRC Server: chat.psionics.net
IRC channel: #dnd3e

So, got some questions? The focus IS on Blackmoor, but I hope to get in some more general gaming questions. Post them here, then come to the interview and see them answered :)

It seems that many people consider the Blackmoor setting to be a northern extension of Judges Guild's Wilderlands campaign world (despite the difference in hex scale). I wonder if D. Arneson views it that way himself?

What are some of the aspects of Blackmoor that you think will appeal to gamers who sometimes have a "seen this, done that" attitude?

What do you think are some of the aspects of the Blackmoor setting that will appeal to both long time and new players?

What were some of the hard choices that you made in designing Blackmoor? Is there anything that you would wish to do differently in retrospect?

In designing Blackmoor, what do you think are some of the differences between now and the 1070s.

There have been much speculation that the RPG industry is in a slump. Do you believe this is the case? If so, what do you think can be done to turn this around.

As a co-creator of the Dungeons and Dragons game, what steps do you believe that companies and individuals can take to make our hobby more popular? Do you believe that there is a need for more introductory products? More advertising? More demos?

So, what still makes gaming and writing gaming products fun after all these years?

Well, for one thing, I'm guessing the proliferation of moveable type made a big difference in printing costs.

JG came after Blackmoor, so I doubt it. But Dave seems pretty easygoing, so he'll probably say if you want it to be, it is north of the Wilderlands. :)

The recent Blackmoor book has sorcerers being hunted down. But since sorcerers were added in 3.0, how did this come to be? Was this retro-fitted, or was there something else in the original Blackmoor that was hunted, and the sorcerer replaced it? (Or did it actually have sorcererers back then, and they weren't so new in 3.0?)

The suggestion actually actually came from him, sorta. It mentions you can connect them in the old JG version of Blackmoor.

(the Wilderlands is a pretty wild setting, though)
