David Hayter to direct Watchmen movie

Macbeth

First Post
David Hayter, the voice of Solid Snake and writer for both X-Men movies will be both writing and directing a movie version of Alan Moore's Watchmen, possibly the best graphic novel of all time. You can find the full story on Sci-Fi Wire.

Am I the only one who is incredibly excited about this?

If true: Much potential for coolness. Also much potential for badness, but if they can pull it off without resorting to the brilliant purple shades of the comic (which would be a BAD choice), I'm all for it. If they make it a film you have to watch twice to understand completely, so much the better.

David Hayter huh?
I didn't know that he was a writer for the X-Men movies? You learn (and subsequently forget) something new every day.

I don't have much hope for this. Watchmen is much to complex to make a movie out of without leaving out a good portion of the story. I'd rather not see this made than end up with a lesser quality story. Watchmen is so much more than just a superhero story, and I'm afraid that it'll just end up being wattered down. There are some stories better left unfilmed, and this is one of them.

Yeah, I also have my doubts, but I'm still excited to see how it turns out, and even if the movie proves to be less then worthy of the comic, it will still draw the general public's attention to watchmen, which is a good thing.

I would have preferred to see it as a cable (ala HBO) miniseries with a Band of Brothers size budget. I have doubts as to whether 2 hrs can capture the story.

Now THATS an idea i would like to see done. Loved Band of Brother's giving Watchment he same treatment would be awesome.

To bad David Hayter will have to change the ending. He has already admitted as much. In order to get a PG13 rating or something.

That's not good.
