Daylight spell

Actually no (I'm hijacking the thread)...

... our monastery (my party's base of operations) is quite possibly going to be invaded by some demons.

My character is a ranger/cleric, one of his main uses to the party is his scouting abilities. The strategy entails when the alarm is raised my character hunts out the intruders and then cast daylight on an item carried by the creature (since the spell can only be cast on objects) to light him up and show where he is to everyone else.

Basically I assume they will attack at nighttime so I want all my friends (who don't have goggles of ba'atezu vision) to be able to see him and attack him successfully without the penalties for not being able to see because it's dark.

So my question remains, if I attempt to cast it on an item carried after making my touch attack does it get a will save? I don't understand why it should.
