Spoilers DCU Creature Commanders on Max discussion

The first couple of episodes of James Guns new series Creature Commandos are up and while they werent bad, I'm not sure it was a good choice for rebooting the DCU unless this is a sign of what James Guns vision of the DCU is going to be - irreverent, violent, frenetic and definitely not catering to the "general audience".

Creatures Commandos is a "secret team of incarcerated monsters recruited for missions" and featuring both Amanda Waller and Richard Flag Senior is a direct sequel to both Suicide Squad and Peacemaker, referencing events from both.
I think that Creature Commandos is far too much like its predecessors - the mission to Pokolistan parallels the mission to Corto Maltese, The Bride has the sass of Harley and GI Robot essentially has the same shtick as John Cenas Peacemaker, so while those who enjoyed Peacemaker will enjoy this, it doesnt really show much range (yet). Not sure what nicking 'Borat' jokes was about either.

That said Indira Varma is excellent and the other characters do have clear personalities, even if the male members (Weasel, Phosphorus and GI Robot) are a largely chaotic atm, leaving the females (The Bride and Nina) to be the rational foundation that the viewers can engage with. Its gonna be interesting to see where this goes ...

Snyder is going to have to hit one out of the Ball park to get me interested in his DCU or whatever he will call it.

I'm not interested in a DCU full of Guardians of the Galaxy types, sooo....

I absolutely LOATHED his Suicide Squad (I suppose I may be the minority there, but that movies stunk balls...hard...it was probably the worst movie I watched that entire year. To say I hated it is probably an understatement. I cannot see why so many loved it so much. Much of the reason it was rated R wasn't because it was necessary, but to appeal to juvenile instincts that serve no purpose in furthering the movie, the plot, or even the comedy. The twists and turns made for comedic assent, simply turned me off as ridiculous parodies of what could have been funny, but as presented, were more stupidely childish rather than anything that appealed to my more mature sensibilities. If I had to figure words to describe it, they would be, immature, juvenile, grotesque, boring, insulting, and just down right infuriating).

Or..

It tries hard to be like Deadpool's humor and violence combined, but ends up being the exact opposite in achieving it.

It may just be that I'm not his target audience, but I haven't really been amused by any of Gunn's DC stuff thus far (SS, PM, haven't seen CC though).

I thought it was fine but it’s a quick paced, silly animated series. I don’t give it too much weight in the whole DCU reboot.
