DDI Changes - PH3 Previews! New price

The virtual game table would have made it easily worth $10. :)

You may be right. But at this point, I am not counting on ever seeing it.

My view of Wizards digital stuff is pretty jaded now - what I see is a way to get a cash infusion into their short term business.

In a time when a single two hour movie ticket costs me more than an entire month of dnd content, I just can't see how $10 is expensive.

Heck, I have paid more than that for a single trip to McDonald's.

Some of us don't live in over inflated cities :)

When you compare $10 a month to other similiar offerings - it is expensive.

But you know what - everyone has to put their own value on the offerings. Some people it will be more - hey if you have a ton of money to waste - your value could be $75 a month.

BTW, a movie costs $8 where I am. I also don't go very much as netflix costs me $8 a month and I can get the movie a couple of months later.

Wow, a price hike.

Wonder when the next one is coming?

I'm not surprised at this much at all, though I do not see another hike coming anytime soon. I must admit that this has driven me further from DDI. I have not needed it to play since ti started, so I cannot see how I ever will.

Does anyone know if the gameday adventures are available for download on DDI?

I find the site very challenging to navigate.

I am pretty sure that the deadline to obtain the download version has passed, and I have never seen the earlier gameday adventures available for download after the fact. However, when I initially sanctioned the event, there was a copy of the adventure available for download (it's still there on my sanctioning).

I'm not a 4e player.. so I won't get into the whole discussion on the price point. For me, IMHO, the price isn;t worth it for reasons beyond the scope of this discussion.

HOWEVER, I think WotC has done a pretty good thing with the PH3 information coming out through the DDI. It's a clever way to push out the information formerly available in the PDF versions. Were I a subscriber, I would also be getting the dead tree books in addition to the DDI. What WotC has done is a pretty clever way to get people to pony up for the book AND the DDI in a way that isn't TOO onerous. As one who still bashes WotC for 4e, I would like to say "nice job." You still aren't getting my money, though. ;)

It's definitely worth my money. I am finding ddi indispensable. The software continues to improve, updates are substantive and right on schedule, communication from WotC is excellent (thanks, Trevor!), and the character builder is suberb.

Things I do think need to be fixed:

- It won't keep me logged in. I have to re-log in every time I visit the site.
- The bonus tools are currently riddled with bugs and usability issues; the encounter builder doesn't pull stat blocks from the compendium, and you can't save for later use.
- Copying from the Compendium has weird formatting issues, including the fact that a monster's level and xp appears before its name when copied.

I'm fairly sure that those issues will be addressed, though. It's nice not needing to be cynical.

I paid around $10 a month for my Dragon and Dungeon mags from Paizo. I think DDI is well worth the money!

DDI is a great deal for me. The compendium saves me hours every month in prep time - that alone is probably worth the price. The character builder is great (I felt no need to buy Arcane Power). The magazines are quality stuff (though Dungeon needs three adventures a month, not two, and the AP just isn't a path that is well thought out). Everything else is bonus to me.

How many companies that you deal with say "hey, this introductory price is about to increase. Tell you what, we'll let you re-up at that price". Um, none?

It's not perfect - the big black bar needs to go; we need to be able to copy and paste from the compendium and keep the formatting; Dragon could use a few more articles, even short, usable ones for PCs; as I said above, Dungeon needs another adventure every month; I'd even like more plug and play encounters.

Well, they always said it was an introductory price, and I think they kept it around longer than initially advertised. But then, they also initially advertised the Visualizer and Game Table. ;)

The next price increase will probably be one of the "regular, inflation-based" price increases that every subscription service goes through.

Well, movie ticked in Oldenburg (Germany) is 9 €. That's with reservation and online order, so it could be a little less expensive. I don't know what this is in American Pe$os these days... (but google does: about 12 $). Just for the frame of reference. And I am living in the "cheaper" regions of Germany. :)

Movie tickets in my town are $5. Really cheap, I know!

But the RPG cost vs. Movie cost comparison has been floating around for years, and it's never held water.

It's like saying "Oh, well you play Scrabble for 3 hours, that's the value of a movie ticket for each person each time you play!"
