Second, they're changing the back end code of the compendium. They say that they're going to get rid of the automatic wildcards that were being added to search queries. Now that I know the Compendium does that, the search results make a lot more sense to me.

Could anyone explain this to someone like me who doesn't speak computer-language?

The most well known wildcard in a search is *, which means "search for anything". So if you search for "orc*" (without quote marks) in the compendium you'll get both orcs and Orcus.

Now, before the update, a * was always added, so when searching for "orc", it'd actually search for "orc*" and you'd get Orcus and his cultists cluttering up your results. The new version doesn't do that, so you only get actual orcs[1] when searching for "orc".

Searching for "human" under the old system was of course completely worthless, since it'd throw every single humanoid in the database at you.

1) And the Oni Mage, whose fluff mentions hiding as an orc shaman.

Hey, you're right. They were in Dragon 374 but are missing from the update. What's up with that?

I hope they fix that soon. I do want to play around with them and having them in the CB increases my "playing aroundability" significantly.

Is it just me, or does Drizzt have zeroes for his ability scores?

I know that sometimes when switching to the ability score tab, no scores are shown until I change a value. Maybe it's the same bug for you.

He has "illegal" scores, though. He's still a dirty powergamer.

He is showing up fine for me, DH. Must be a glitch on your end of things. It is kind of hard to say.
