DDI Compendium and Cut-n-Paste?

darkbard

Legend
It used to be that when I wanted to write up my game notes before a session, I would load the Compendium on the Wizards site and cut and paste monster entries for my use into a Word document. The formatting for said entries would be the same as it appeared on the site, i.e., matching what would appear in a Monster Manual entry with regard to font, shaded rows, etc. Doing so pleased the perfectionist in me.

Now, however, whenever I cut and paste from the Compendium, I lose all that nifty formatting. This change seems to have coincided with the new updates to the Compendium, the format that matches images in the galleries, for example (I'm sure there's a name for this but I haven't a clue what it might be!). Sure, I can still transfer the information into a Word document, but it sure doesn't look as pretty. Does anyone know why Wizards changed their interface so that this is so? Was it done deliberately? Are they even aware of it? Is there something I'm missing that would allow me to cut and paste and still retain the formatting that matches that of printed adventures, etc?

Thanks!

The formatting is done via CSS, not plain HTML. This is the way all major websites handle formatting nowadays. Because the HTML doesn't have markup tags, you just get the plain text when you paste it into Word.

I haven't tried it myself (so I can't confirm), but I read somewhere that if you use Google's Chrome browser when doing the cutting & pasting, you won't lose your formatting if pasted into MS Word.
