DDI Monster Builder

One saving grace:

It is really fast. Remember how much delay you got and still have when increasing a single stat in the character builder or trying to customize a monster in the old monster builder.

As i definitively agree, that it is more or less useless, it seems to be a good base.

Yep. They managed to speed it up while making the transfer to an online app, which is heartening. I agree that it's a good base. The online Character Builder is pretty solid, so I expect this will eventually get to the point where it becomes indispensable from a DM's standpoint.

My suspicion (and this is just a guess) is that we will start seeing more customizeability in the MB once the VT goes back up and they can make sure that this version imports well into the VT.

The only use I can see for it right now is importing custom monsters from the old Monster Builder and being able to access them in the Virtual Table. Granted I haven't seen VT or said functionality so that might be a pipe dream on my part...

I'm pretty sure that's what it is. In earlier phases of the beta, this MB allowed you to slightly alter monsters that could then be directly imported into the VT, without the need of data entry.

I think they wanted that functionality available when rolling out the VT to a wider audience, even if the MB wasn't useful for much else.

What is this speed you guys are talking about?

It's running slow and laggy as heck for me on my broadband connection. The problem is Not my computer either (quad-core with 4 gigs of memory).

Their servers? The app itself?

You can't update anything other than the level and names. You can't paste the monster into a word document. You STILL can't apply a template or alternate powers. As it stands, the new monster builder is a slap in the face to paying DDI customers.

I could be more specific about what WotC is slapping us in the face with, but I am a gentleman.

I noticed the following not appended to the bottom of WotC_Trevor's posting on Monster Builder...
Note 3/22: After launching the web-based Adventure Tools today, we found a bug with saving custom monsters imported from the existing tool. We’re testing a solution now. We’ll update you the moment the fix is live, but this should be resolved today, or early tomorrow. Stay tuned for details.

It also states the obvious in the main body:
For those familiar with the Monster Builder classic, you'll definitely notice that the web-based Monster Builder is not as robust when it comes to features. Over the next few months we will be adding features and content until we meet, and in some ways surpass, what the classic Monster Builder offered. I'll bring you more information as I get it.
Carry on!

wow, totally sad. I did better than this in the course of 2 weeks with javascript and a hint of java for statblock formatting and validation. I should finish my web version.

I keep trying to be positive about WoTC's recent moves but they keep disappointing me time and again. Its more a monster viewer than a monster builder at the moment.

Honestly, its just a front end to a database application with a bit of attached game logic - its not rocket science and its a far less complex problem than the character builder.
