DDM Rant: Dwarves...Aaaarrrgghhh!

Why do they produce so many darn dwarves with every set of D&D Minis. It is driving me nuts. I cannot see why anyone would need that many darn dwarves.

I want to beg Wizards not to produce multiple dwarf sculpts every set.

I just got two myself the other day, golden dwarf and marshal in plate and agree with you 100%.

Don't get me wrong, the marshal in plate is an awesome dwarf figure, but I don't want any more dwarves, especially as commons.

No doubt. You cannot usually buy a gnome or halfling, but a dwarf? Sure...we'll design five. 2 common, 2 uncommon, and a rare. Have fun.

Well, for a long time, it was hard to find good dwarf figs. At least for me.

But yeah. I'm stocked with 'em now. Thanks. :) Now put some more beholders and mind flayers out there so I can get one please!!!

I guess I've noticed the dwarves, but what really bugs me are the drow. Every set has boatloads of drow figs. Most of them are commons, too, so I can't even sell them to someone who cares. I really, really hate drow, too. I suppose I could always paint them to be regular elves, but that's kinda the point of buying pre-painted minis. Besides, I'd rather have some variety. Stepping up the production of elementals (or other summoned critters) would be really nice, too.

Oh, and Gneech, if I ever pull a Beholder, I'll happily trade it to you. The mind flayer is mine, though.

I hate how the same races show up in every set also. But I realized something. They have to make at least 60 different minis each set, and they want to be making sets for years I'm sure. but there just isn't that many monsters they can use to keep each set fresh, so they rehash stuff.

The only thing I can think to make it work better is if they started doing different versions of monster minis in various sets. We have 1 sculpt of a Formian warrior, but I would like to see a new sculpt later on because my group of Formians all look like twins. Or a different pose for an Umber Hulk...stuff like that. I'm sure they will be doing this but I wish they did it sooner. I don't need more drow...I have a crapload of different drow sculpts.

The one that gets me is the Half-Orc. I don't know about skirmish, but how often do I need a different Half-Orc mini in my D&D game? There's twice as many Half-Orcs as there are Half-Elves. In my experience, Half-Elves are used way more than Half-Orcs. There's even a Half-Orc Monk, but no Dwarven, Elven, Halfling, Gnomish, Half-Elf, or Drow monks. Someone at WotC really likes Half-Orcs, "Can't forget to put 2 new Half-Orc minis in the next set!" :p

While I share your hatred of the drow, please don't spread misinformation. Lolth's Sting is the first ever Common drow figure. All other drow so far have been either Uncommon or Rare. And they all sell for loads of money on eBay, so you shouldn't have much trouble getting rid of them. Harbinger drow Uncommons, for example, sell for more than many low-end Rares.

I agree with having waaaay to many dwarves and drow.
I am not sure what I would have them make instead but they can lay off these for a little while.

I'd want to see the percentage of each race represented in DDM's, to compare them with the percentage of each race found in most D&D games.

We need more Gnomes, and probably Half-Orcs.
