Interestingly enough, I've never been a huge fan of miniatures. Then in a big fight last night, we used the pre-painted minis for all the monsters. . . a bunch of giants, a fiendish T-Rex and the behir that someone polymorphed into. I was surprised by how much more fun it made the battle.

For me, miniatures have been made by the combination of the detailed 3e rules for handling them, and the existence of the D&D Miniatures that allow me to actually have miniatures in the first place.
