You're talking about (at this point) 6 months until the con; there isn't a hotel in the world that would have that stringent a rules about events, especially if they want repeat business. The size of the convention isn't that big in the first place (1000 tops) and even here there isn't much hotel business generated by the con. The hotel probably wouldn't make all that much in the first place. (which could be one reason it's moving.)

At last year's DDXP, my family was able to book a room on Priceline AT THE HOTEL USING THEIR COMPUTER for $50 a night and this is in downtown Arlington, VA in the Crystal City area. They had plenty of rooms open and very few con guests staying there. It isn't like GenCon where there is a guaranteed 20,000+ hotel guests. For most folks, it's very much a commuter convention, go to the con and then go home to sleep, return if you want.
